Katherine Bishop was one of two daughters of a wealthy man, so charity balls were the norm for her. While other children of rich and powerful individuals would probably be upset and turned off at the idea of attending these things, it was quite the opposite for the 18 year old beauty. She enjoyed charity balls and giving to the less fortunate. That’s why she still volunteered at shelters. Nothing could beat seeing the smiles on people’s faces that she helped put there. Tonight, she accompanied her father and young sister, Susan, to the annual Robert Hawkin’s Charity Ball being held in Boston Massachusetts. A sleek, black limousine, one of many, pulled up in front of the designated building. As the driver came to open the door, out stepped the publishing magnate, Derek Bishop, dressed in a suave black suit and Gucci shoes.
Shortly after, two beautiful young women followed suit wearing matching purple dresses and heels. Kate and Susan laced an arm through their father’s and the three Bishops strolled into the banquet hall, heads held high. Unlike Susan, who really only did this to be seen, Kate enjoyed the charity balls because they allowed her to give. Upon entering the room, their father planted a gentle kiss on their foreheads before going off to mingle with his colleagues. Susan went off to go chat up with some of the sons while Kate was left behind to find something to do. She idly clicked her heels as she looked around for some familiar faces or something to entertain herself with.
Part of her was really hoping that nothing bad would happen since she didn’t bring a change of clothes, her Knightress uniform to be precise. Kate spotted the lovely spread that was laid out for them on the table to her right. Rubbing her belly and smiling, she strolled on over to the buffet to satisfy her hunger.

If there was a time where James Arthur Madrox ever thought of Sesame Street, it was oddly enough now. Particularly that part where there was that game with the song. One of these things is not like the other… he thought to himself in a singsong tone. The young mutant shouldn’t have been here. But when he shook some kid at the academy down for cash and one of those special invitations came from that kid’s pocket… well, why not? Jamie was one of those kids that just reeked of white Midwestern White Trash. He stole cars, bullied kids around, and typically sent most of the cash he’d snagged back home to his grandmother. He was not the kind of guy that looked like he belonged along with the elite of anything.
One of these things just doesn’t belong… But there he was; dressed as if he did with his typically messy brown hair slicked back and in a suit that he’d gotten second hand that was, at least, in a condition that was passable for a swanky occasion like this. Can you tell which thing is not like the others by the time I finish my song? He almost wanted to snicker at the song going on in his head. As he presented the invitation that he’d stolen acquired and walked in. He didn’t know any of the faces and even if he did, if they were from school they would blow his cover.
Technically he could say that he was the son of a Nuclear Physicist and could potentially get away with this. Until asked, though, Jamie proceeded to be a curious fly on the upper class wall as he made his way to the food. Damn, being fancy sure made him hungry.

This ball was in full swing, people mingling with each other, exchanging information, and just having a good time in general. Kate looked over to her younger sister seeing her chatting up a young man. She smiled and gave a slight shake of her head. That girl and her flirtatious ways simply amused her. Kate turned her attention back to the table before and began to pick through what she wanted to eat. She settled on a few finger turkey sandwiches, some grapes, strawberries, cheese slices with the pepperoni to match, and a glass of champagne, or sparkling water since she was still underage. She noticed another individual making his way to the food table, a young man that she’d seen before at one of these things. He must be new or something. Cute fellow. Kate strolled on over to his location and gave a little curtsy. ”Hello there, I’m Katherine Bishop. You are?”

Aside from in the Academy’s kitchen, Jamie had never really seen a spread like this. Really, the kid was starting to be spoiled at that fancy school. None of that now, though. He was presently in the company of people that did swanky things like lift their pinky when they held glasses and stood when women entered and exited their company. He had to commit to this! Well… he didn’t necessarily need to. He had intended on blending in and just watching how the other side lived until he decided to shake things up later. He had grabbed a few of those finger sandwiches, a more than healthy helping of cocktail weenies, and a few crackers with spread stuff on them that he was sure he was going to smear under the table if he didn’t like them.
Before he could continue his act of being normal, run of the mill, snooty rich bastard, he was approached by a decently hot looking thing and his brow shot up at her curtsy. “James Madrox,” he set his plate aside and lifted his hand to offer a hand to shake before thinking that maybe people didn’t do that in places like this. His hand went to his middle as he bent forward in an awkward bow that may as well have belched ‘I’m incredibly new at this.’ He stood back up straight and flashed a smile. "But most of my friends call me Jamie."

Cute young man with a big appetite from the look of things. She couldn't blame with though. The food was pretty much on the small side so it took more to get that full satisfied feeling of a real meal. Most people were going to go to some restaurant afterward anyway and the caterers knew that so there was no need to make real food. Kate looked at him with a smile, yep the kid was new to this place. Bout time too cause she kind of getting tired of seeing the same faces every year. ”Well Jamie, it's nice meeting you. Never heard the name Madrox before. What company does your family run?” Her father was a big publishing guy so her name was more than known. Madrox was a mystery though. Maybe a new oiling company or something of that nature.

Jamie’s smile stayed plastered on his face. Good job kiddo, he thought to himself. Congratulating himself all too soon when he heard her question. He tried not to pale or look nervous. Really… what had his plan been for that? He thought for a moment. He didn’t want to lie that much. Quickly he took a bite of one of his finger foods to give him time to answer. C’mon Jamie! Think of something anything! It was in that moment that he channeled some of his classmates. He swallowed the food almost coolly and grinned. “I don’t really know, exactly.” His shoulders came up into a shrug. “He gives me my allowance, I spend it.” A hand then came to rub the back of his neck. “He works as a physicist for a company that develops metal coatings for the military,” he said as if it were totally true. “He tries to explain exactly what he does… but I just kind of zone out.”
