“Well, it has been a few years since I was on the team, so things would of naturally gone to hell since I left.” He wasn’t surprised if she had beaten his former alma mater, considering if she was even half as talented as she made out to be He assumed she had to be considered at least above average. Archery, fencing, some kickboxing too if he wasn’t missing his mark (which he very rarely did), not to mention several other unarmed fighting disciplines. Not exactly the usual type of skill set you’d find on a city kid, not to mention a upper class one judging from her accent and bearing. That led Clint to believe there was a little more to it than a simple case of spoilt rich girl with too much time on her hands, something had driven her to seek out danger and confront it.
Clint had to pause slightly at her admittance to being a mutant, a bold statement given the state of play regarding that topic at the moment. He certainly wouldn’t go around sharing his own genetic status that was for sure, he got enough flak over it back at SHIELD to cover both his professional and unprofessional lives. Outwardly he chuckled and shook his head, gesturing to the fallen criminals. “Doesn’t take the ability to crap thunder and piss lightning to kick some ass, kid. Just because you might not have as awesome a gift as half of those running out there doesn’t mean you’re worth any less. You’re standing up for what you believe in, super awesome special powers of doom or not, and that’s what counts y’know?” He scratched his jaw absently before tossing the bow and quiver back to its owner, slightly weirded out by how grown up he’d just sounded. He couldn’t help it though, the kid kind of reminded him of himself at that age, only probably more responsible and good natured.

Kate snorted at his comment. ”Yea that school has most definitely gone to hell. Those kids that they put me up against were some real crap. Oh uh, sorry to insult your school… if you actually like it or something.” The young girl stretched her arms out a bit with a small yawn. Tonight had been fun with stopping these lowlifes from harming innocents in their little gang war, but Kate was still itching for a little more action. She knew that someone somewhere in this city was robbing a bank as they stood chatting. Sometimes she wished she had the mutant power of multiplication so that she could be in more places than one to kick some serious booty. Whoever had that power was one lucky girl or guy. Her attention drifted to the criminals as he gestured to them. She placed a foot and back of one as he tried to inch away.
She listened to him. Wow he sounded like he knew exactly what the hell he was talking about and believed in it as well. She nodded with a slight smile. ”Barton, I like you. You’re a cool guy that just secretes awesomeness. Wherever you learned how to do the things you do must be a great place. What is that you do now… besides the butt kicking of random goons?”

“Ha, don’t worry about it, hon.” Clint shook his head, waving his hand slightly in a dismissive gesture. “I haven’t been back to Iowa, let alone my alma mater, in years, don’t really plan to either truth be told.” That was true, the marksman had turned his back on that place as soon as he had finished school, hitting the road minutes after his graduation in fact. He glanced down at the criminal beneath her foot, issuing a quick application of his boot to the man’s face to stop his escape attempts. The saying ‘never kick a man when he’s down’ wasn’t one any SHIELD agent followed, experience quickly teaching you that kicking them when their down is, in fact, the best time to do it.
“Er, thanks I guess?” He scratched the back of his head absently, a bemused expression falling into place at her words, not entirely sure how to take the sudden flattery. “Ah, you know how it is, a little of this, little of that...” He trailed off, eying the girl before him out of the corner of his eye for several seconds before deciding to tell the truth, or rather a part of it. “Government stuff really, nothing too fancy or whatever. Law Enforcement type stuff, so the whole ‘butt kicking of random goons’ as you put it is kinda my job anyway.”

Oooo ouch, a kick right to the face. Now that one had to hurt the guy, but she didn’t care of course. Kate giggled a little when he didn’t take offence to her earlier words about his high school. She enjoyed her own high school, but still was glad to hurry up and graduate from that place. ”Yea high school can really suck at times with the whole ‘in crowd’ and all that other unnecessary jazz.” She placed her hands on his hips as she listened to him speak. ”Ooo, government stuff. You mean like the CIA or something like that? A secret branch that people like me isn’t supposed to know about? How awesome is that!” Kate was practically bubbling with excitement. Cool secret government groups were awesome in the movies. To be a part of one in real life had to be fun. ”Man I want a job like that.”

Clint had to arch an eyebrow at the girl’s enthusiasm over his job, obviously reading waaay too much into his job than was probably healthy. It definitely cemented the idea that he wouldn’t want to be around her on a sugar high that was for sure. “CIA?” He rolled his eyes, mumbling something about amateurs under his breath. He supposed there was no real reason not to tell her, the existence of the agency was more of an open secret. They didn’t exactly advertise what they did on a day to day basis, but they didn’t keep to the shadows either. “I work for SHIELD, so no need to start going down the ultra, super, secret special agent route, kid.”
He shrugged noncommittally and regarded the beaten forms of the thugs thoughtfully once more. “But as for signing up, it’s not exactly all that easy to be honest. Psych evals, background checks, the whole shebang.” He remembered his wasn’t a walk in the park and he’d had the added advantage of actually being sought out by them. “’sides, you’d have to drop the whole vigilante gig if you really want in, are you sure you could do that? Kinda seems to me that you got some reasons to be out here doing what you do, I won’t pry to as why, that’s your shit not mine, but could you give it up?”

Holy crap SHIELD? That was beyond friggin awesome. Katherine was like a little kid in an ice cream factory now... on the inside anyway. She didn't want the SHIELD agent seeing her acting like a little kid on Christmas just at hearing the name. She took in a deep breath and exhaled slowly to calm herself. Kate clasped her hands together in front of her face and grinned. Being a SHIELD agent would be straight-up joy. ”Psychological evaluations and background checks? Pfft, I don't have anything to hide at all. Well... except my identity so my father doesn't kick my butt. The psychological evaluations should be a breeze too.”
Well damn. Joining up with SHIELD would mean that she had to drop her vigilante act. She had started doing this to protect the people, and almost to get back at criminals for what had happened to her and her mother in the past. But SHIELD protected people from villains and big time criminals. That was something she could admire and get in to. She gave a nod to Barton. ”Yes, I can do that. SHIELD works on a larger scale so yea. I'm so in. What do I have to do exactly?”

Clint had to raise an eyebrow slightly; the kid was taking this nearly bouncing off the walls at the prospect of joining SHIELD, totally different to his attitude at the time. Still, most vigilante-types the marksman had come across were thrill junkies, and they would undoubtedly react the same way to an offer such as this. “Might end up having you dear ol’ daddy finding out, kid, joining SHIELD isn’t ‘xactly like signing up for Pilates or whatever... They get the checks too, so I’m pretty sure he’ll find out what you’ve been doing sooner or later.”
He frowned, rubbing the back of his head and mulled over her words. “I suppose I could take you down to the nearest headquarters, let them deal with it...” This really wasn’t how he had imagined he’d be spending his Friday night off. Picking up girls, not that he’d pick up someone Knightress’ age mind, usually involved a little bit of fun, not getting the signed up with a government agency. Still, he supposed the kid had guts and talent, he’d leave it up the brass to decide if they wanted her or not.

Yeea, he had a point there. Joining up with SHIELD would mean exposing who she really was to her father. But she was 18 now so he shouldn't be too upset with her since she is at the legal age to make her own decisions. ”That's fine by me. He was going to find out one way or another.” She looked at the ground for a moment to think things through, play some scenarios of how her father would react. There was no way he be tooo mad at her, she was trying to do something positive keep things like what happened to her and her mother from happening to anyone else. Kate looked to Barton all smiles. ”Well then what are we waiting here for? Let's head on out my man!” Enthusiastic as ever was Katherine Bishop.
