It was a new year and thankfully for Charles Xavier he had been quite busy with the running with the school, he hoped that 2010 would be a more relaxing year but for some reason the Telepathic doubted it immensly. Ah well, he had decided to get back to classes today.
Already a few people had arrived for his class but a few people were still to come. Today he was holding one of his debates, he found it gave the students a chance to flex their mental muscles and actually enjoy the learning process, so much better then simply recording from a text book. They seemed to retain the infomation more when they were challanged. He decided he would wait a few more minutes for stragglers to arrive and then start.

Kelly struggled through her morning ritual. She still tried to do things on her own, her arm was almost healed but not enough to really support her weight. Her legs were useless at least for the moment, so getting into the bath was hard as hell. She sat in her electronic wheelchair in near tears before one of the other girls saw her and helped her get bathed and dressed. Kelly had tried not to cry at how embarrassed she felt, but a few tears did fall.
Finally, the girl pulled herself together and made her way to Professor Xavier's class. She wheeled in and looked around for a place she could park. The one cool thing was she always had prime pick of seating. "Morning, Professor."

Xavier was sifting through his notes as the next newcomer came in to the room. It was Kelly, a sweet enough girl who had suffered recently as a result of being at the school. He couldn't help but feel a little personal guilt out of what happened. After all every single student in this school was his responcibility and as a result he needed to make sure they were cared for.
She spoke to him in greeting as she passed, he nodded in return and said "Good Morning Kelly, take up a position in class, you're just in time. We're waiting for one or two more stragglers before we begin

Kathy ran in her usual fashion on all fours even though she was thought to walk upright like a normal person but it was just a habit of hers. She then took her seat as she climbed into it " good morning Professor !" she smiled cheerfully trying to hide the fact of what happen in the battle.

Penny made her way from the cafeteria to Prof. Xavier's class. She liked the professor since he was always kind to her. His classes were always interesting because he cared about what the students thought. That and it was interesting to watch the other students get into big debates over so many different things. Quietly, she slipped into the classroom and nodded to the three people who were there. Quickly, she made her way to a seat in the back, where she could hide in the corner. The girl was still having trouble adjusting the new awareness that it wasn't her power, but the girl herself, people seemed so suspicious of.

Xavier spotted a small shape scamper past on all fours, he'd guessed already before she sat down that it was Kathy, she probably had one of the biggest problems of all the students. What with her appearence and mannerisms making her seem very....feline, but she seemed a very cheerful girl so luckily she didn't seem to take anything to heart. "Good Morning Kathy, you're right on time
He rolled himself infront of his desk just as Penny entered and slipped in to a chair at the back, he'd have to keep an eye on her so she could fully participate in todays debate. He was hoping there was a lot of different views today as if everyone agreed it kind of made a debate short...well if that happened he could always play devils advocate, that normally worked. "Good Morning Penny...just about made it." He waited a few moments for the clock to settle firmly at the time class started before begining "Todays debate class...Is about power. Specificly the powers we all use and in some cases take for granted. The Question I ask you today is as mutants have many varying ]degrees of power should there be a limit on what we use and when we use it...or she we be able to judge for ourselves where that limit lies? He stayed silent for a second to let it sink in before asking "Okay...who shall be first?

Kelly nodded to each of the girls as they came in and then looked back at the Professor. She wondered how he was coping with being in the chair, but then with his powers it had to be easier to adjust. The pride thing might get in the way if he was the type, but at least he can uses his powers to get things for him. The girl who used to climb to the top of the counters to get something was reduced to sitting there and waiting for someone to show up. She was still struggling with getting used to the idea even if she did let everyone thinks she was just as bubbly as before.
Blue eye refocused at his question. It was a good one and kind of hard for her to decide since her power is solely based on having another mutant, or some times two are required, around to activate it. She raised her hand. "I think that we should be able to judge for ourselves. Just like with anyone we are going to have some good ones and some bad ones. I mean, they don't go through and say 'You are bad so you only get a BB gun. You are good so you can have a semi-automatic assault rifle. Limiting us and regulating what we can and can't do, is just wrong. Sure here are those that make the rest of us look bad, I mean one of them put me in this chair. But I'm not going to blame all of us for it. It's free will, you take that away from us and you are asking for even more trouble than we are already in." The blond sat back and let out a slow breath, she probably could have kept going but she still wasn't one hundred percent.

Xavier nodded interestedly at teh girl's point of course she was right...though in this class it was more or less impossible to be wrong, unless of course you begun making up facts and statistics. He was just glad that his class and indeed the whole school were quite bright. They always shared ideas...well most of the time. He waited after Kelly was done to see if anyone had any follow up points, he was afraid of this...whilst the class normally enjoyed sharing ideas sometimes they could be a little reluctant or shy, this was when he had to play devils advocate.
"A very good point Kelly, but I think that perhaps you are just thinking about mutants with powers such as pyrokinetics...Telekinetics or other powers that can be used in fairly small ways...but do you have the same opinion about someone who could say...warp reality, or create highly infectious diseases? surely such a person shouldn't have free reign with their abilities?"

Penny looks up. "Sir, that's the problem with society though. They lump all of us together. I mean, I could send someone into cardiac arrest or a nut house if my powers develop. But I don't. It's a touchy subject because there is not true objectivity here. You either see it one way or the other. We might consider ourselves good, but others might see us as criminals. No matter what the answer is, it won't be the right one so to speak, because we are talking about powers as well as people. It's not like registering a gun."

Ah Penny, he was glad she'd piped up, with any luck Kitten would voice an opinion after as well. It was all about getting the confidance to speak up, normally the most vocal of the class begun and depending on how the class went they'd either end up ruling the debate and it would resort in just two opinionated class members discussing a topic or as the more vocal class members joined the less confidant children would want to take part shortly after...or so he hoped.
Penny made a good point, the whole issue was so very complex and really there was no right or wrong answer. It might be wise to say that powers that could kill on mass or say...sink a ship should be kept check on but so many of the children here could be considered 'weapons' and 9 times out of 10 they were harmless "A good point Penny....so what would you say given the options of...I don't know, registering mutant powers, should you register everyone? or no one? or just certain powers?"
