++Application for Enrollment++
The Person
Name: Roberto da Costa
Age: 27
Place of Birth: Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
Applying too: Massachusetts
In what capacity: Staff (teacher in Business, Ethics, and Philosophy) as well as Black Rook in the Hellfire Club
Family: Emmanuel da Costa (father) and Nina da Costa
Height: 5’8”
Weight: 170 lbs
Appearance:
Skills: Roberto has extensive experience taking over his father’s business empire and finished graduate school in business and marketing along with a teaching certification. He is also fluent in his native Portuguese as well as English and classic Latin. In his leisure he prefers outdoor athletics, particularly soccer. He is also a formado in Capoeira; something that he rarely uses unless his abilities are rendered useless.
Personality: Roberto is a perceptive man, able to weigh how others around him think and act accurately. The only problem with that, is that he tends not to care. He is very abrupt and to the point with his evaluations (much to his students benefit and dismay) and tends to forgo subtlety in order to get things done. That said, his patience can be a bit short when it comes to things that don’t necessarily matter and quick to anger over small things. One would notice, though, he shows almost endless endurance when it comes to the well-being of others. He is a fairly level when it comes to his moods, never particularly moody or overtly enthusiastic. He is highly protective of his friends and especially his students. That said, there is nothing that said such a nature can’t have its benefits. He knows the bright future the majority of the Academy’s students have available to them. Being their helping hand and support can prove profitable later on. That does not change, however, that his first priority is the safety and education of his students. He is intelligent, but unfortunately his brashness can sometimes get in the way. He tends to choose to only go on certain missions; opting out of ones that might limit his abilities due to his powers.

The Mutant
Codename: Sunspot
Mutant Abilities: Roberto has the mutant ability to metabolize sunlight into physical strength, flight, or heat radiation. This enables him super strength, enough thrust for self-propelled flight, and the ability to fire heat blasts from his hands. While using his powers his body takes on a black, featureless appearance that is covered in crackling energy; looking almost like a human-shaped black flame. The only features other than his outline that are visible are his eyes and mouth which emit an orange, fiery glow.
Weaknesses: Roberto’s own impatience tends to be a bit of a cripple when trying the thoroughly plan out an action. Also, when not in a sunlit area, his abilities are lessened, he still possesses his powers, but they are nowhere near as strong as they would be should he be out in the open. Also, he is still mortal, should a weapon get past his fiery shell, he can still be hurt. He is not invulnerable, just very, very hot.
History: Roberto da Costa was born to a wealthy Brazilian family. His father was a powerful business man, Emmanuel da Costa and his mother was a highly acknowledged archeologist, Nina da Costa. With his parents constantly busy either at meetings or off on excavations, Roberto was essentially brought up by tutors and other forms of child care givers while growing up. The boy had very little interest, at first, in education and instead always found his mind drifting to the soccer field. He pleaded and begged his father to let him sign up with some of the “less bred” children; with a sigh, Emmanuel agreed. The young boy couldn’t have been happier.
His formative years were spent with little consequence; he had a silver spoon thrust quite neatly in his lips while being tutored in etiquette that provided him with the tools of compassion. He obtained high grades in his studies and it wasn’t until he was about sixteen that he learned that he truly was different than those around him.
During a soccer game, a player on the opposing team started heckling him with racist remarks. A fight broke out and his temper flared to the point where his mutation manifested. His skin encased itself in a black fiery shell and his features seemingly melted away and he stood on that field almost demonically. With no control over his powers or his anger, he hospitalized that young man with third degree burns. Distraught over the consequences of his actions, Roberto shut himself in his room for days while he tried to figure out just what had happened? Was he a monster? Some sort of demon that was placed on this world for the purpose of hurting others? The answer, however, came to him when an associate of his father, Donald Pierce, approached him. He explained that Roberto was gifted and just the type of young man that would do well within the ranks of the Hellfire Club (a secret organization of the world’s upper crust that his own father was involved with). Pierce stated that he knew people that could help him learn to control his abilities. Skeptically, Roberto accepted.
He received the help he needed in controlling his abilities despite not entirely knowing what fueled his powers. He opted not to aggressively use them, though. He wanted control and not to use his abilities in order to lord above others. He also continued his studies and well into college, his father passed on. Not entirely sure what he should do, Roberto placed his inherited control into the power of attorney until he finished school and had a full understanding of the business world. That said, however, that did not apply with his placement in the Hellfire club. He wasn’t entirely sure how to go about his low rank within the inner circle and chose to forfeit his spot for the time being. After finishing school, Roberto took over his father’s company and also worked his way into the Hellfire club until he reached the inner circle once more. There was a bit more respect in doing it this way, in his own opinion; seeing as how he preferred to earn the advancements he received just as his parents had. Eventually, he acquired the position of the Black Rook and he was pitched the idea of aiding Emma Frost in selecting young mutants that would be fitting for the Hellfire Club’s future generations. He accepted and has been serving as a teacher and mentor to the students since.
