Adele was curled up in her crib, napping soundly. Marie was using this opportunity to nap as well- Adele got really fussy at night and hated to be put down for anything, but especially sleep. She rolled over and snuggled under her blankets…
But then suddenly she was freezing. Why was she so cold? And her clothes… they were gone. She curled up, trying to shield herself… but there were men in the room with her. Men, in long dark robes who almost looked like priests and who only seemed to laugh at her. And she was hurting, hurting all over but especially in places that she shouldn’t be hurting. Her hands clawed at a collar around her neck- if only she had her powers, she could just melt and get away from these men who had hurt her… But then one of the men came closer, and he was carrying something in his hand and then she was screaming in pain…
And then she was screaming for real, throwing the blankets off of her and scrambling away from the bed. Adele began to scream as well, startled awake by her mother’s nightmare. She swore in French at her own stupidity, then picked Adele up out of the crib and rocked her gently to calm her down. It took several minutes, but she finally calmed down enough to stop crying.
Marie shifted Adele around so she was resting against her chest and rubbed her back, frowning. Melt… melt… she didn’t have melting powers…
But Cessily did. Cess could “melt”…
“No.” she hissed. Something had happened to Cessily, she was sure of it. And it was going to get worse, too. Unless they went to save her now. It would break one of her rules as a precog, but Marie didn’t care- a teammate’s life was more important. She would deal with the consequences of changing the future later.
She scrambled out into the hallway, looking around and then heading down it as fast as she dared while still holding Adele. She needed to find someone else… they needed to get to Cess now.
Marie glanced at Adele (who was laying in a crib and gumming on a set of toy keys) to make sure she was okay before turning back to the communications system in front of her. Her tarot cards were spread out on a table just to the side, and her eyes were glowing white as she raised her hand to the commlink. She had elected to stay behind at the Academy- to be their watchtower, as it where.
“There’s a church on your right.” She spoke into the comm.. “His base is underneath it. Be careful, he’s planning an ambush. He also has collars that stop your powers. Watch out for them. They’re going to fight dirty, so be ready for anything.” That was part of the reason that she had sent some of her constructs along to fight- with her sole command to the constructs to obey any order that a member of the Hellions may give them.
