It was late at night when he came. Most everyone in the mansion was asleep and unsuspecting of what would happen in only a few short moments…
Apocalypse had finally had enough of the X-Men. They had organized that attack after all, that had killed his first Famine. But no matter, he won that fight, little did the X-Men know. Despite what they had lost, they still had counted that fight as a victory.
What naive fools. Apocalypse never lost. He always came out on top. Always.
He floated over the school, silent and deadly. It was easy for him to bypass the security measures- he had learned everything about their cyberpath the second she had hacked into Famine’s base. Anything she had set up would be easy to get around. Shielding his mind and cloaking his presence from other telepaths in the Institute? Child’s play. Anything other security measures? Not even worth mentioning.
No one could stop him now.
He smirked, and then floated away from Xavier's. His smirk only grew wider as he heard an explosion coming from behind him, but he didn’t bother to turn around and look.
Big A has left the building.
The attack had obliterated the kitchen and the dining room and a couple surrounding rooms. Damage was widespread throughout the rest of the institute. It was on fire- anything that hadn't been damaged in the explosion would soon be consumed by flames.
Xavier's had been just about destroyed.
The hallways had received a lot of damage. Paintings and all the decorations have fallen over, and in many places, it is on fire. Several walls have collapsed as well, blocking once familiar passages and turning the school into a burning maze.

It had just been a coincidence that Cori was awake. She had woken up and had wanted some water, and so had sleepily wandered to the kitchen to get a bottle of water from the fridge.
She had left the kitchen and was making her way back to her bedroom when she heard the explosion. In seemingly slow motion, she turned her head in time to see fire. Lots and lots of fire. The blast knocked her into a wall, which she hit with a thump and then slid down, slumping to the floor.
She fluttered her eyes open, moaning slightly. She brushed her hand through her blonde hair and then hissed in pain. She looked at her hand- it was red with blood. What the hell happened? Was the mansion under attack? She needed to move, get out and fight, or something!
But just the move part proved to be too much for her. Her arms buckled under her weight as she tried to push herself up, and she fell back to the ground. Okay, moving could wait until the world had stopped spinning around so fast. Hopefully, the fire didn't get to her first.

*Flick*Pause*Flick*Pause... *Flick*. It was late at night and the X-Man known to many as Gambit, and to a choice few as Remy had nothing better to do than practice his aim. He should've been sleeping, but sleep wouldn't take him without the onslaught of nightmares. Guilt still wracked his subconscious, he didn't want the professor to try to subdue it, because he deserved to feel that guilt.
He leaned back on the Rec room chair, letting out a groan as boredom bit into his brain like a rabid dog. There was only so many times you could throw a card at a waste paper bin before it got tedious, and Remy was a patient man, as anyone would be able to see from the amount of diamonds, spades, hearts and clubs that piled up in the bin, and speckled sparsely around it.
Cracking his neck he eyed the window, still dark, but he still wasn't tired. Wearily he pulled out another deck of cards. Pause... *flick*
What he wasn't expecting to hear next was an earth shatteringly loud boom, he quickly brought his arm up to shield his face as the windows blew in. Some of the shards nipped at his skin, but none hit his eyes, for which he was eternally grateful. It felt like an age had passed before he finally dropped his arm, but in reality only seconds had passed.
His red on black eyes gazed out at the wreckage "Mon Dieu..." He breathed, as the wall caved in. Wincing away as the hot ash from the spreading fire erupted into the air, that was his cue to get a move on. He pushed himself over the back of the couch and out of the door.
He had no idea what was happening or why, and at this point couldn't really care less, the only important thing right now was getting everyone out safe. Gambit paused and elbowed the glass that encased the manual fire switch, praying that some systems were still operational, namely the sprinklers.

Coming back from inside from practicing a bit of her martial arts, Claire walked down the halls. It was rather late and she realized she had teaching to do in the morning. As she walked down the halls, she realized her little orange tabby kitten was at her side, bending over to pick up the little kitten she smiled, " Ya should be careful petite, ah almost stepped on ya."
As she walked down the halls, her red hair tied back in two small pigtails, she looked up hearing a gigantic boom down the hall seeing fire sprout as shards of wood and glass shattered everywhere. Quickly shielding the little kitten, Claire curled up into a ball. Bringing her arms to her face to cover her eyes as splinters of wood and glass sliced at her forearms and her calves.
Looking up around seeing the damage seeing fire burning everywhere. Looking up seeing smoke bellow out of the roof the top of the mansion gone,Go find shelter now. If you see someone that isn't hurt too badly, well send them my way. Claire tells the little kitten as she travels done the hallway knowing she was in pain from the wounds on her arms and legs. Knowing that there were other people that needed her attention. Hearing the fire alarm, she knew someone else was thinking. Smiling as she went to help others.

At the time of the explosion Professor Charles Xavier had been where he normally was. In his office going through the mountains of paper work that the school produced. It was times like this that he missed Erik, at least before his turn to terrorism he was useful at getting it all done, ever since it was his job alone.
His slow drudging night was interupted by something even more unwelcome, a large explosion. He ducked his head down, he needed to find out what was happening...he focused his attention out. He felt thoughts of confusion and fear all over the school. He wanted so badly to be able to jump out of his chair and rush to the rescue as he used to but had to grudgingly agree that most of the students were able to help themselves. He was more likely to endanger himself. Rolling away from his desk he moved himself to the door and leant forward opening it he moved in to the hallways and was surprised to see three other students, one of which was Remy. He looked at them and asked "the other students...are they okay? what happened?"

Coughing her way through the smoke, the fire burning her eyes. Looking around she wasn't sure how she was going to help anyone with her powers. She had summoned Grace to go find help as there were no other animals nearby. She knew that she would get through this on her own, with her own talents. Coughing harder she looked forward, seeing someone leaning against the wall. Coughing she looked more and saw it was a student, "Cori!" It was one of her favorite students. She knew as a teacher she wasn't suppose to have favorites, but she loved Cori's personality and her ability to play music so beautifully on the guitar. Kneeling beside her, putting her hand on her shoulder, "Come on Cori. Let's get ya outta here." Wrapping her arm under Cori's arm holding onto her trying to get out of the fire. The smoke becoming thicker as Claire coughed harder and harder. Knowing that she would risk her life for the safety of her students. She would do the same for any of them there. She saw everyone as family there. It was her home and now it was gone.

Cori moaned slightly in pain. She needed to move, right? She needed to get out of here. Her head was just hurting so much... and something warm and wet was dripping down her cheek and that just felt gross. She shakily reached up and brushed it away- more blood. Eww.
She needed to get out of here, but she just hurt all over- especially her head and shoulder- and she was just so tired and she didn't really want to be here... She wanted to go home.
She opened her eyes slowly as someone called her name. “Miss De Reuix?” she asked slowly. “Wha’ happened? I hurt.”
Wow, now that was an understatement.
She managed to stand up- mainly with Miss De Reuix’s help, though. Cori wasn’t sure if she could have gotten up without help. She, too, began coughing as she stumbled down the hallway with help. There was just so much smoke that it was hard to breathe!
Cori lifted her head slightly, looking down the hallway. If the smoke was gone… She shakily raised her left arm, tears running down her cheeks at the pain. Her shoulder- it just hurt so much! What had happened to it when she fell? It wasn’t broken- she had broken bones before, and it didn’t hurt like this. A twitch of her hand summoned a breeze that blew past them, blowing some of the smoke away. Not all of it, though- just enough that they could breathe easier, especially as the smoke got thicker. It would have taken too much work to blow all of the smoke away- something that Cori knew she couldn't have done right now.
