There were times that Kurt Wagner just needed to get out of the Mansion. He loved the people there that had become his family and he most certainly loved the simple fact that he had managed to be accepted for who he was looks and all. But it was still walls. Sometimes it was just a different kind of cage for Kurt. He was safe so long as he stayed at the Institute. It grew tiring to think that people didn't accept who and what he was and it had taken him almost a lifetime to real find himself comfortable in his own fur. So comfortable that Kurt actually would venture into one of the biggest cities in the country without so much as a second thought or image inducer.
So, Kurt got off the boat that was from the main part of the city and stepped onto Liberty Island with just a hood from his sweatshirt obscuring his face and a long jacket to at least mask the fact he had a tail and an odd build. His hands stayed in his pockets and he stood up far straighter, and most significantly more proud, than he had his first trip to this iconic statue five years before. With the war going on, it seemed that places like this should be a no-man's land for human and mutant alike but he wasn't so sure. Regardless, Kurt Wagner, German Immigrant, now US citizen thanks to the Professor's help, was going to see the statue of Liberty and retouch with what it meant to be free.
He moved with the masses, not necessarily caring how close the people were but rather found his sulfuric gaze looking at the younger masses of visitors. They looked bored; absolutely the opposite of what Kurt thought this place should represent. He saw the children clinging as practical dead weight on the arms of their parents while the early teens looked downright apathetic to the fact that they were stepping up to the very symbol of the country. He expelled an apologetic sigh to Lady Liberty; almost waiting for her to say 'It's alright, Kurt. I get that a lot.'
