++Application for Enrollment++
The Person
Name: Sooraya Qadir
Age: 18
Place of Birth: Kabul, Afghanistan
Applying too: Massachusetts Academy
In what capacity: student (first class)
Family: Mirah Qadir (mother), other family unknown
Height: 5'6"
Weight: 120 lbs
Appearance:
Underneath her veils, Sooraya is rather thin. She has dark skin, as well as dark hair and dark eyes. However, she is rarely (if ever) seen without her veils, and even occasionally wears gloves to cover up even more of her skin.
Skills: Due to her upbringing, Sooraya is fluent in both Arabic and English as well as has a working knowledge of Russian (she can speak Russian, though she can’t write or read it). Out of force of habit, Sooraya has a survivalist nature which allows her to keep her cool in tough situations. She's a fairly skilled cook, especially traditional Middle Eastern dishes.
Personality: Like many Muslim women, Sooraya has learned to be pretty even-tempered. She tends to keep her own thoughts and feelings to herself. Underneath her calm demeanor, she can be very volatile; her emotions are mostly on the extreme ends of the scale, though she has mostly learned to suppress them. Often, she can appear cold to people. For the most part, Sooraya doesn’t trust easily nor does she give up on the people she does trust. Sooraya also has a habit of contradicting herself, both in action and in word. For instance, she is violently opposed to Islamic tradition but also clings to the veils in order to hide herself. She is both confident in her powers and actions and shy about her body.

The Mutant
Codename: Dust
Mutant Abilities: Sooraya can turn her body into a sandstorm (both fully and just parts of her body). The force of the storm can range from simply blinding someone to stripping the flesh from someone's bones.
Weaknesses: Most of Sooraya's control over her powers come when she is forming and reforming. She has only a little bit of control over the sandstorm, in between, though she is working on it; the control she has consists of being in control of the direction the sandstorm takes and its seriousness. Sooraya is notoriously shy, which she covers by absolutely refusing to ever be seen outside of her veils. However, her powers don't allow for her to take her clothes with her, which can lead to some embarrassing situations, and her having to rely on outside help up to keep covered. For the most part, Sooraya doesn't trust easily, but when she does she will do anything for those she's let in.
History: Sooraya was a product of rape, the blame of which was placed solely on Sooraya's mother, Mirah. Mirah moved to Kabul some months before Sooraya was born and managed to blend in, somewhat, by convincing her new neighbors that she was recently widowed and had no family to turn to. While Mirah was still somewhat of an outcast, she managed to make a comfortable life for herself and Sooraya, though Sooraya was never allowed to know the full details of how Mirah made her money.
However, when Sooraya was ten, men who claimed Mirah worked for them broke into the Qadirs' home and kidnapped them. Sooraya never saw her mother again. Shortly thereafter, Sooraya was sold into slavery where she worked mostly as a domestic, doing the cooking, cleaning, and other household chores.
As she got older, though, it was decided that Sooraya should expand her skill set. When her owner at the time went to remove her niqab, however, her powers activated violently. She flayed him alive, leaving nothing but bones, and disappeared into the desert. For the most part, she spent the next few weeks as mostly sand, solidifying only to steal food or sleep.
It was in the desert that Sooraya was found, desperate and afraid, by Emma Frost. She agreed to join the Massachusetts Academy. Slowly, Sooraya adapted to Western life, though she still clings to her veils for the privacy.
