- Books?
- Movies?
- Music?
- Comics?
- Just having a good day?
- RPing with the right character?
- Posting to/with someone you have great chemistry with?
For me, I don't depend on a muse. I have one, and sometimes it can be used to enhance a post, but honestly I just get posts out there. My philosophy is, people want a post and not a long wait, so I do my best to give them just that.
However...
Lately I have only been able to post roughly once or twice per character, which so far is working wonders. I've literally got a schedule for each character, and I post as them in a particular time frame once a day. If time permits, I make an additional post here and there, usually for underused characters.
So if anyone is curious as to why I post once a day, that is why. It is orderly and works best, and allows me to hit all 15+ RPs I am a part of in a 24 hours period. As before I was posting more on some sites, while less on others, which isn't too fair to those sites... at least to me.
Anyway, feel free to share and discuss what motives you. As well as any posting pet peeves and such, be they IC or OOC.

I depend on a muse. I mean, I know where you're coming from where if you force yourself to post, something comes out. It might not be spectacular, but it's something for the person to reply to. That works for me sometimes. I'll sit down log on a site and I sit there until I can get something done. Sometimes I get distracted and open another window and watch youtube or something so it ends up taking me nearly an hour or two just to write a paragraph and in those two hours, I know I could have posted in all the sites I'm on.
In all honesty, sometimes, I just can't get in the mood for an RP I'll go for days without posting on a site. Hell there are two sites I'm on where its been at least a month or two where I haven't posted. What I watch does influence my "muse".
An example, there is a RL forum rpg I joined a few months back. No super powers, mechs, or monsters, ect. Just a RPing a normal person living their life. If I sit down and watch Gossip Girl or the OC...some kind of drama, I can catch inspiration and make a post. If I watch any X-men movies or cartoons, naturally I can catch a muse and its easier to make a post here or other X-men sites I'm on. Music also inspires me as well. If It's not uncommon for me to hear a song and then I'll associate it with an RP character or It'll remind me of a character I've created. I'm sure we've all plotted out theme songs for our characters...-looks at the games thread-
Of course, having a good day always helps me. It's easier to be creative and just allow the post to flow out instead of having a crappy day and I'm struggling trying to figure out what to post and figuring out why life sucks ass. So yeah, Mon-Thursday are bad days for me because I have classes and I hate school with a passion.
Perhaps it'd be better to set up a schedule for my characters. Of course with homework and social life, I can't stay to a strict schedule, but I can try and be more strict on it and check every site I'm on and try to make a post...IF I have to, because I know (and thank god considering how many sites I'm on XD) not every thread will get responded to everyday.

I've been a part of the Roleplaying community for about...4 years now and I've found that the little things change over time. When I first started, I was part of the Romance of the Three Kingdoms community (historical fiction of a warring period in China) and I pretty much grew up in that area. The community I was a part of were all quite tight and I felt fairly secure, despite having people way above my skill level.
My posts steadily increased from one paragraph to eventually four at some times; problem was, it flipping takes it out of you to post that much creative energy. Sometimes, it feels more like a chore than a voluntary act of fun. I came to learn the lesson that it is quality, not quantity when it comes to posts and once I was in the characters 'zone' I could cook up something beautiful.
I once RPed a character who was a samurai whom tended to let his emotions get the better of him; his anger and his love for his wife. It was strange, I played that character exactly how I, myself, would act in the situation and the juices literally just flowed. It was amazing, I needed no music or inspiration, I just asked myself, what would I do in the sitaution? Weirdly enough, that was some of the best story progressions I've ever experienced.
To end the rambling, I'd say, personally, my inspiration comes from a sort of 'connection' with the character. I try to dig deep into the mind and emotions of the character before I post. Sure, sometimes I end up only posting five lines, other times I spurt out three or four beautifully constructed paragraphs. In the end, I dislike to post when I don't enjoy playing as the character.
