This character has the potential to be both immensely amusing to read and also be able to offer a really deep look into the whole discrimination of mutants, LGBTs, and other ethnic minorities in the states. If you can keep the balance right, which having seen your roleplay before, I can see this character turning out to be really interesting.
I'm fond of her, mostly because she isn't like most people in the regards of being a transsexual. To me she is the pentacle of enduring discrimination, yet she also ironically gives it with the Diva-esque attitude. So it has a nice package, but she generally works best when people are fairly active outside of missions and team-based plots, considering her career.
I think she's hilarious to use because, well, guys shouldn't know IC if she's a female or male, and to trick them is priceless. Makes for good jokes, IC and/or OOC.
Aside from that, I tend to think most Asian characters come from Japan. People overlook China sadly.
I'm on the fence with controlling insects, as the power is useful if done right. Mostly I see people just use an insect to attack, not actually form any kind of bond. Also to set her apart, her body produces various chemicals which the insects bite her skin for, absorb it, and can then bite others to influence their moods or similar like things. I did my best to make it unique but also flow with her personality, as she talks to small insects like children.
She also talks funny, so she isn't like most with the whole "Me Russian, me superior to Americans, so me crush you" fiasco, something I find in
A LOT of Russian characters. They're all cold, and without any reason; just because Russia has ice doesn't mean somebody has to be cold and uncaring. What makes Natka unique is, while she appears cold, she has her reasons (and not the cliche family was killed) but she is also friendly to people.
And yes, I agree. I think people pick "American Russians" because they don't know very much about being authentically Russian, similar to how people take a canon and twist it around so much you wouldn't know it was the canon if it wasn't for the avatar. But me, having been to Russia a few times, I feel if you're going to be from Russia... be from Russia, not Austin, Texas.
Sefka is a little difficult to explain, considering he's more of a "you have to see him in a thread" to grasp him, but he's pretty much a coward who complains but with logic - not because he hates something for a silly reason (to be cool or dark and mysterious, you know cliche RP character traits). He can hold his own, generally by knowing how to get out of something, but also he tends to step up to the plate when he knows it is wrong. Otherwise, he leaves people to their own foolishness.
I also like the fact he has one of the most overused powers, which is shadow manipulation, but he can't do very much with it at first glance. Strategically, he can, but practically no. This is what sets him a part, as I didn't design him to be insanely God-like.
Also, he's a byproduct of the whole Serbia vs the rest of Yugoslavia. Something many people ignore like China, sadly.
I didn't much like her in the comics, as she reminded me of Jean Grey if she was remotely cool. I don't like carbon copies, but that is what she was becoming in them, so I'll always prefer her animated appearances.
But I can say this, she'd be a quirky woman to have under S.H.I.E.L.D.. If there is one thing I do, it's make a character appealing.
And yes, I'm not a Jean Grey fan. Never have been, heh.
As mentioned a little earlier, Red Skull is someone I give a little extra kick to. I like RPing Nazis, Germany from 1914-1945 is fascinating to study, and he became one of the most feared criminals not by powers, but by his deeds. To me that speaks volumes above others.
I'm going to assume you haven't seen my Domino elsewhere, because you'd know she's a tweaked version - but nothing insane (pun intended), she's still recognizable as Domino. I just added more emphasis on the experimentation thing, it's ramped up her loco level to put it mildly.
You can ask anyone who knows my Domino from another site, they'll tell you. She stands out and isn't somebody to easily be forgotten, not to mention she's ruthless (and not that cliche kind either, you can ask Air-Rider about that).
I like picking different countries, and I feel I can do that since I've been to most. I have a first hand feel of the countries, so it works out. Also I don't like seeing a thousand people from America or Japan, the two most popular countries followed by England and Germany, at least in my experiences.
To me, her power is a good metaphor for insane potential and possible abuse in the wrong hands. However the fact she has this, but the circumstances must be right, really humanizes her. It means I (and she) have to think, and cannot just snap their fingers and BAM! Instant counter, I hate that nonsense.
And yes, being a teacher, I've noticed we have lots of them but strangely... very little classroom threads. Anyway, I figured she could help the students understand the law as it applies to mutants.
Actually, he's a hit or miss with the ladies. But you'd have to see him in action to see that, but trust me, he probably won't put too heavy a dent into Clint's reputation.
Actually, I see time-related powers a lot. Most times they have silly check points, like they can do it 15 times a day, or they can only go so far back, or they control a certain distance - and that's it. To me, it isn't really a fair trade off considering how Godly such an ability is, one which does not translate well to RPing due to the fact it's difficult to do it fairly to both sides. They can also use their power anytime, anywhere, but the way my character is... if he's in space, can't do it. You punch him in the stomach, he can't do it. You take away the air around him, he can't do it. Surprise him so he's short of breath, he can't do it. There's many, many ways to tip the scale, and that is something I
always do with my profiles, you'll see I list detailed weaknesses for my powers - particularly ways to counter and overcome them.
I was aiming for him to join the Hellfire Club, mostly as comical relief and because he wouldn't exactly fit in, but he'd do enough to warrant a spot. He'd be the White King, if that was possible.
Sounds reasonable, and thanks for taking the time to do this. You helped me out quite a bit with my thinking.[/ul]
