Penny slipped out of the school and headed outside. It was a glorious day and she wanted to enjoy it, while doing homework of course. With a book, notebook, and pens in hand she made her way toward a big tree and sat down. Penny stretched out her legs and opened her book and started reading. She wasn't yet able to buy herself a music player so her head bopped to the songs flowing through her head as she tried to focus on her homework. It was one of the reasons she had come out in the first place since she couldn't focus inside. However, now that she was out here her concentration dropped to nothing and she let out a soft sigh. Her curly head rested on the trunk of the tree and she closed her eyes just soaking up the beautiful day. Her homework laid on her lap forgotten.

Ororo loved being outdoors in the warm sunlight of the day. Class had just let out a few minutes ago. She assigned the students their homework, straightened up the classroom for a few minutes then went off to get herself some lunch. On the menu for her was a nice turkey sandwhich whith cheese, a bag of doritos and nice bottle of water to wash it all down. The Weather Goddess strolled along outside until she spotted one of the students sitting under a tree, apparently sleeping. With a smile, Ororo made her way over to the girl and sat next to her. "Is this spot taken my child?" she asked in that ever so gentle voice.

Penny wasn't sure what she was dreaming about but all she knew was it was weird. At far away and vaguely familiar voice, Penny's brown eyes snapped open. Oh dear she just got caught snoozing by a teacher. It took her a minute to remember she wasn't in class. Once that cleared through her mind a big smile touched her lips as she looked up at one of her favorite teachers. "Hello Ms. Monroe. Oh now, it's free and clear. How are you doing today?" Many would probably call her a suck up but mainly she was just a sweet girl who liked to make friends.

"I'm doing quite well today, Penny." Ororo looked down at the book resting in the girl's lap and chuckled. Seems she had chosen to take a little catnap over completing or rather starting her homework. Ororo wasn't the type of teacher to hound a student about doing their work, though she still thought it was important of course. Penny was a great student always turned in her assignments on time with a smile. She didn't play favorites, but Penny was a cut above the rest in her book. "So how are you doing in all of your classes? Fine I assume?" Ororo removed her sandwich from the plastic bag and took a bite.

Penny's gaze followed Storm's and she blushed a bit. "I didn't meant to nap, but the sun was warm and I was comfortable. I fully intend to do my homework. Just call of the outdoors was too strong." Really she had meant to start it which was why she came outside, figuring she'd get focused. After being busted, so to speak, by a professor she just might get her focus back. "Not too bad. I think I'm doing pretty good. I'm studying a lot. I think this was like my first break in two weeks." Penny closed the book and set it aside, then sat up straighter. "Have you ever resented your powers?" She hadn't meant to blurt that out.

Ororo chuckled at the young girl. "Don't fret child, I know how these things go. Enjoying nature is something that I myself like, as you more than likely know." Being a weather goddess, of course you were going to love the outdoors. It was only natural. Ororo even loved the rain, something was just so soothing about it. "Makes me glad I'm the teacher and not the student," she joked. Man, not having a break for two weeks sounded kinda rough. Then again being a teacher meant you had just about as much work to do, if not more with grading papers and all.
Her next question seemed to have come out of nowhere. It surprised the African woman actually. "Have I ever resented my powers? Well to be honest, Penny... I don't think I have. Being a mutant is a gift, one that I embrace wholeheartedly." She turned to face Penny. "You don't resent your own do you?"

Penny relaxed when she realized she wasn't in trouble. It would have been the first time that it's ever truly happened. "It would make sense being able to do the weather stuff." She nodded her head and grinned a bit. The girl looked shocked. "I'd figured you'd rather be a student, then you could skip and play hooky or whatever they are doing." She herself had never skipped a class since she'd been there, but then she was nineteen and should have been out of school by now. Penny had a lot of work to make up and she tried very hard to catch up.
When Storm said she embraced her powers, Penny just nodded. But then again she would, her power gave her the chance to actually at least, heal the land in a way. But Penny couldn't bring herself to see her powers as a gift, no good came from being able to drive someone insane with fear, or causing a heart attack. "I don't like it. I don't like what it does to people. The only thing I do like about it is that I'm fortunate enough to be able to control it. I'm the one that wants to comfort people when they are afraid, not cause them to be afraid." She stared down at her hands and wasn't sure what to do. She'd just have to deal with it and accept that it was a part of her, just didn't mean she had to like it.
