Personality:
Penny is sweet, kind and caring and hates her ability since it goes against everything she believes in. The girl is also sassy and quite comfortable in her own skin (save for her gift). She'd do anything for her friends since her friends are legitimately her family and if ever she needed to grow a spine, well then just attack family. She has no formal fight training but she's a scrapper especially when she's wielding a household implement. She can get mean but it very rarely happens, especially without her apologizing profusely afterwards. If she doesn't apologize then you know something is up. Oh and she never ever willingly lets someone see her cry.

The Mutant
Codename: Sunshine
Mutant Abilities: Penny can cause various levels of fear through the touch of her hands. It does not have to be skin to skin contact but it's as if her hands are the focal points through which her power flows. Her power is controllable however if she herself is in a great amount of fear than it tends to go a little haywire and is harder for her to control. The level ranges from just making someone feel rather 'creeped out' to death of the recipient.
Her powers of causing fear, have evolved so they are now not only by touch but also have a range of 10 feet around her. She can use the powers on multiple people, though it's diluted with the amount of people she uses it on.
Weaknesses: Has a hard time actually using her ability against people. It would have to be an extreme circumstance for her to even think about using her ability. After using the gift for too long she tends to get shaky and weak. The stronger the fear she causes the weaker she is after the fact.
History:
Penny's mother died giving birth to the baby girl. There had been no father in sight and her mother had never put the name down on the birth certificate. Since there were no known living relatives the baby got placed into an orphanage. Unfortunately it was one of those orphanages that many people didn't realize was there so the adoption rate was pretty much nothing. Once the children arrived they never left, at least not until they were old enough to and then they got kicked out anyway. It was at the orphanage that Penny actually found out she had a knack for cooking and sewing. When she was old enough she was in charge of the kitchens to 'make a meal out of nothing' and to make and mend clothes for the other kids. It was also there that she found she had a gift for being a bit of a 'mother hen', especially when it came to the little ones. For as crappy as it was, life was actually pretty good. Until she turned eleven.
At the age of eleven some strange things had begun to happen. Everyone, save for Penny, were getting creeped out and scared beyond belief and no one could explain why. Generally it happened after Penny had touched them in some way. One of the older children had started to figure out,by the time she was thirteen, that the cause of all the fear was Penny and 'sounded the alarm'. Not wanting to cause them anymore fear, and not wanting to get locked up and examined, Penny ran away. The girl had been traveling for nearly a two years, with many pit stops and what not along the way, before she finally found herself in front of Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters. At fifteen and terrified of herself and what she could do Penny had lost all hope until she realized who the school was actually geared toward.
The girl spent the next four years learning how to control her powers and how to trust herself again. For the first year or so she tried to keep all contact to a minimum but eventually her true personality pushed through and once more she was a ball of sunshine. Not nearly as far behind as she used to be, but still trying to 'catch up', Penny is still a student at Xavier's and is working very hard at bettering her life and trying to figure out ways to better the life of all mutant and mankind, one cookie at a time.
RP Sample:
The fifteen year old wrapped her arms around herself and looked around the dark and scary alley. The wind was up a bit and she was freezing. The thought of staying there for the night made her stomach turn. Quickly she turned on her heel to run from the alley when she smacked into someone. The man had been following her for some time now and he scared the crap out of her. When he smiled it showed off his nasty teeth and bad breath. His grip was tight and she whimpered. Out of pure desperation, because he was starting to drag her off, Penny reached up with one bare hand and touched the side of his neck. Her fear seemed to add some juice to her ability and the guy dropped her. As he clutched his left arm the girl took off running not even waiting to see if he would make it. Penny ran until she couldn't breathe anymore and slid down the wall to another dark alley. The chubby girl curled herself up as much as she could and cried herself into a fitful sleep. Before the first rays of dingy sunlight could reach wake her, Penny was already gone.
