"I don't really 'ave a pref'rence when it comes t' coffee...straight black's aw'right fer me; helps me stay up fer...work." He replied to that last part hesitantly, as though thinking for the right words to describe just what it was he did. Mortimer couldn't help but crack a grin as, not two seconds later, she started talking about how much she loved the holidays; it must've been nice to enjoy something like that. She probably had family to spend it with or something, or at least really close friends.
The holidays weren't ever really the best time for him, in fact, a lot of bad things seemed to happen to him around the holidays. It was around that time that he was abandoned at the orphanage he grew up in. Christmas was never happy for him there, or anything else for that matter, at least growing up how he looked. He ran away from the same orphanage around the holidays too. Since then, he tended to go into a state of depression around the time; he didn't really participate in the festivities, and he wasn't even sure they celebrated anything like that on Genosha. He got too caught up in training to really bother to care.
"Hn...I'd 'aft'a guess Halloween'd be me favorite." He replied, only half lying really. Hell, it was probably one of the few holidays that he could wander around without people freaking out at seeing him; they'd probably compliment what an awesome costume he had and everything. He had to lift his face mask again to take another long sip of his coffee, grateful to have the warmth flowing through his veins.

Her head tilted to the side as he spoke. She felt bad for taking up the conversation but she couldn't seem to help herself. "Is there anything you prefer over coffee? Can I ask where you work? I'm not a stalker type person, I swear." If she weren't sitting in front of him, she'd be banging her head off the table. But the girl was damn good at hiding what was truly going throug her head, and she smiled a genuine smile through her entire little spiel. She was naive truly she was, but she wasn't quite as clueless as most believed. Penny just knows its best to suck it up and move on, at least in public.
Penny watched him take another drink and nodded at his Halloween comment. Silly, ditzy, bubbly, and so forth she was, but she wasn't stupid. It didn't take long for her to figure out that there was some sort of physical thing going on. The reason he was all bundled up like that. But as any good girl was she didn't say a word, and her face never registered the lightbulb that went off in her head. "I think I like any reason to have a party. I don't really do much for Christmas, but I just love the decorations and the way people act so differently. You know, they actually seem to go through radical personality transformations. They help each other, little old ladies get dangerous with their walkers.... I just love watching it all." Yet again she was babbling, and yet again she didn't really mind. It was kind of nice having someone who wanted to listen to what she had to say, at least until he started feeling trapped. That was never good.

"I like Mount'n Dew, I guess..." He shrugged and took another drink of his coffee. Was there really so little to his personality, he wondered. That he didn't even have a favorite drink? Or was it that he didn't care? It wasn't like he had anyone to share little things like that, anyway. Hell, who would want to talk about stuff like that at Genosha, in the Brotherhood? It was like a little city, and yet he never went out. It wasn't like he couldn't...it was a mutant city...who would judge him there? He scoffed, knowing that whoever asked would be surprised. There were still those without physical mutation, and those with. Guess which end of the spectrum he was on? People were people either way, snobby and condescending, even to a member of the Brotherhood. It wasn't like he was one of the ones that could kill them with a look or something.
Then she asked about his job. He was silent for a moment, thinking on what they were planning on doing...attacking the humans for the attack on Genosha...could he really explain that to her?
"I'm a temp," He stated bluntly and took another drink of his hot coffee, not really bothered by his lie. It wasn't like he was going to see this girl again, right? She was a human, had to do human things and such. How nice life must've been to be normal, right? Even if she was a little chubby, she was still pretty...
He smiled a bit as she started going on about parties and the fun, and watching it all. Yeah, she was a regular teenager, wasn't she? Still young, still had a life...here he was thinking like he was dying, and he was only in his mid twenties. Life went by fast for him...he was mostly just a spectator...he liked listening to her though. He wasn't tired of it, it was just nice to have someone want to talk to him of things other than destroying humans or mutant superiority.

Penny fidgeted with her spoon and wondered if she had overstepped her welcome. Then wondered if she had actually even been welcomed. He didn't seem to want to really talk much and she sighed softly. Was she the only person who actually liked talking to people? Probably, she seemed to be the only person to be like her, at least on a genuine level. "I like, Dr. Pepper...." The comment was said softly and hesitantly as if she wasn't sure she should have said anything.
When he said he was temp she just let it go. There was something telling her that getting anymore out of him wouldn't happen. So she nodded and sipped her coffee. "Mortimer? Would you prefer if I just kind of left?" She didn't want to stay if she made the man uncomfortable. Her sweetness tended to freak people out, probably worse than her gift ever would.

Great, he was chasing someone else off. It wasn't like he could tell her his life story, first off, or what he did, not that he would, and especially not to a human girl, which was what he thought she was, so far. Mortimer sighed and put his coffee down, looking up to her from under his hood. Why did she even want to stay here with him? Wasn't he pretty skeevy looking? Sure, he got her purse back, but what did that mean? He even told her it was by accident.
"No, ducky, I never said I wanted you t' leave," He looked at her, he would probably quirk an eyebrow at her if it were even visible, what with all the being wrapped up and such.
"Sorry if I'm not much've a talker...just don't get a chance t' use me voice all that much," He explained lightly, leaning back in the seat he crouched in.
"But listenin', I can do. Tell me more about y'self." He smiled as best he could without showing off his pointy yellow teeth.

Penny looked over at him and smiled. She had just wanted to make sure, because sometimes she didn't quite get the hint. "I just wanted to make sure. I don't always catch the hint sometimes, so I gotta make sure, you know?" There had been plenty of times in her life that she should have taken the hint. Again she sipped her drink and then looked down at the table. When he said he didn't get to talk much she frowned a bit. "This works both ways you know? I mean if you do want to talk and use your voice, I won't mind."
The girl tried to think of something interesting about herself. Something a person would actually give a crap to know. "Um, I like to cook and bake, and make things. Sewing, fashion, arts and crafts and stuff. My classes are alright and my teachers are pretty cool." She chewed on her bottom and then sipped her coffee. In retrospect there really wasn't much she could tell about herself. Definitely couldn't blur out she was a mutant.....
