Kelly studied him for a long time and tilted her head. ”I’m not going to cry if that’s what you are thinking. I gave you your space so I didn’t make you anymore uncomfortable than I already did. It wasn’t my intention and I’m sorry if it made you feel that way.” She shrugged a bit. ”Just wanted to let you know that there was someone who gave shit, even if I’m not supposed to and in a non sexual, creepy, stalker crush manner.”
Again she shrugged when he said she didn’t want him as a friend and that he knew how to watch his back. ”I’m not going to argue with you about it, because no matter what I say you won’t take it heart. I’m usually a pretty decent judge of character and no matter what you might have done or even why, you are a good man. Good men are actually hard to find in this day and age. So trust me when I tell you I know one when I see one. You might not believe because of the regrets that you hold on to like a protective barrier, but the fact that you have those regrets and you know yourself as well as you do, just proves that you are a good man. But we aren’t going to talk about this anymore because you won’t agree with me.” She gave a little harrumph and then shrugged a bit with a grin. He was a good man whether he realizes or not but it’s like trying to convince anyone who doesn’t want to believe or listen, pointless.

“You didn’t make me uncomfortable, well, not that uncomfortable. I’m just not into hugs, luv. Especially when they come from kids a good decade and a bit my junior.” Pete smirked thinly to let her know that he wasn’t really offended, not to mention out of sheer reflex over the awkward situation. She really wasn’t a teenager, not totally really, and that kind of bothered Wisdom. Kids shouldn’t be this jaded or observant this early, they should still have a bit of innocence that shielded them from the world for another few years yet. But, he supposed, it was nothing but a sign of the times.
“Regrets and self knowledge don’t really equal a good man, luv. Hell, even Magneto probably regrets some of the things he’s seen and done in his life, and he is definitely not qualifying as a good guy.” He slid another cigarette out of his packet and lit it up with a hot knife, taking a long drag. Like her, he didn’t see the point of pressing the issue much further however; either she would realise it one day, or she wouldn’t. He glanced at his watch and exhaled, waving the smoke away with his free hand. “It’s getting late, maybe you should head back in, eh? Pretty sure there’s a lights out in a bit.” He wasn’t exactly trying to get rid of her, but rather just wanting to smoke his last cigarette in relative peace and not have to dredge up his past any more than he had to.

Kelly just looked at him and nodded. She understood but didn’t say anything thinking that she understood probably freaked him out worse than the hug. Times have changed from back when some of the teachers were kids. Every generation has to learn to adapt to different scenarios than the one before. It just seemed to get worse as the years progressed. Taking away more freedoms and laying down more restrictions was going to have its effect on the youth of America and the crime rate and death rate of random violence reflects that. So yeah they were more jaded, observant and worried about stepping foot outside their doors at night.
The girl new a dismissal when she heard one. She gave him a smile and as she walked past him looked up. ”Thanks for taking the time to talk to me, Mr. Wisdom and for not ratting me out. I’ll see you in class or around depending on if you play hooky or not.” With that she winked and kissed his cheek before heading back inside. He’d probably be thinking the same thing most any guy does when they come across her. That she was going to be the death of him.
