Personality:
How does someone describe Steve Rogers? Essentially, he is the father that no one has ever had. Headstrong, determined, compassionate, intelligent, polite, serious, loyal...The list truly does not end. Above all, he is patrotic and loves his country more than almost anything else. He is a typical hero, he will do whatever it takes to protect those whom are innocent and cannot protect themselves. He is also known never to truly show high levels of emotion, such as fear or anguish.
Codename: Captain America
Abilities:
Captain America represents the pinnacle of human physical perfection. Captain America has a very high intelligence as well as agility, strength, speed, endurance, and reaction time superior to any Olympic athlete who ever competed. The Super-Soldier formula that he had metabolized enhanced all of his bodily functions to the peak of human efficiency. Most notably, his body eliminates the excessive build-up of fatigue-producing poisons in his muscles, granting him phenomenal endurance.
Captain America's only weapon is his shield, a concave disk 2.5 feet in diameter, weighing 12 pounds. It is made of a unique Vibranium-metal alloy that has never been duplicated. The shield was cast by American metallurgist Dr. Myron MacLain, who was contracted by the U.S. government to create an impenetrable substance to use for tanks during World War II. MacLain was never able to duplicate the process due to his inability to identify a still unknown factor that played a role in it. The shield was awarded to Captain America by the government several months after the beginning of his career.
The shield has great aerodynamic properties: it is able to slice through the air with minimal wind resistance and deflection of path. Its great overall resilience, combined with its natural concentric stiffness, enables it to rebound from objects with minimal loss of angular momentum. It is virtually indestructible: it is resistant to penetration, temperature extremes, and the entire electromagnetic spectrum of radiation. The only way it can be damaged in any way is by tampering with its molecular bonding.
Weaknesses:
With all these heights of perfection and what not, it is important to remember that Captain America is at the height of human standard; meaning he is still a human being. A gunshot, powerful blast, super-powered punch or adamantium claw will take him down if it connects properly. He has no amazing super powers and in a battle with someone like Phoenix, he will ultimately get his hide handed to him on a silver platter.
History:
Steve Rogers was a scrawny fine arts student specializing in industrialization in the 1940's before America entered World War II. He attempted to enlist in the army only to be turned away due to his poor constitution. A U.S. officer offered Rogers an alternative way to serve his country by being a test subject in project, Operation: Rebirth, a top secret defense research project designed to create physically superior soldiers. Rogers accepted and after a rigorous physical and combat training and selection process was selected as the first test subject. He was given injections and oral ingestion of the formula dubbed the "Super Soldier Serum" developed by the scientist Dr. Abraham Erskine. Rogers was then exposed to a controlled burst of "Vita-Rays" that activated and stabilized the chemicals in his system. The process successfully altered his physiology from its frail state to the maximum of human efficiency, including greatly enhanced musculature and reflexes.
After the assassination of Dr. Erskine. Roger was re-imagined as a superhero who served both as a counter-intelligence agent and a propaganda symbol to counter Nazi Germany's head of terrorist operations, the Red Skull. Rogers was given a costume modeled after the American flag, a Vibranium-Alloy shield, a personal sidearm and the codename Captain America. He was also given a cover identity as a clumsy infantry private at Camp LeHigh in Virginia.
In the closing days of World War II in 1945, Captain Ameria tried to stop the villainous Baron Zemo from destroying an experimental drone plane. Zemo launched the plane with an armed explosive device on it, with Rogers in hot pursuit. He reached the plane just before it took off, but when Cap tried to defuse the bomb, it exploded in mid-air. Rogers was hurled into the freezing waters of either the North Atlantic. His body was never found and he was presumed dead. Rather than dying, he seemingly fell into suspended animation and was found a number of decades later by a team of marine biologists.
Rogers did not age at all during the entire period, which could be contributed largely to the fact that he still had the Super-Soldier serum inside him; or simply because he was frozen in suspended animation. Nevertheless, he was brought back to reality by a team from a department named S.H.I.E.L.D. Finding it almost impossible to come to grips with the fact that it was 2004, Rogers believed that he was indeed dead and that this was some kind of dream world. Yet, he was shown America as it is in the current day; a world of opportunites.
Over the next few years, Cap became one of the Government's most effective, and public, operatives. He was trained to use many of the latest of military technology, which he rather expertedly handled. He was even brought in to train American Armed Forces members the true skills of combat and other regimes.
Captain America remained as a patriotic symbol for the American dream and tended to have a fairly easy career...up until 2009 when mutants finally became public...
