Martial Arts - Elektra has a heavily Japanese-influenced martial arts background. Having spent a great number of years in Japan, she attended schools that taught a variety of Japanese Martial branches. These branches include Ninjutsu, Kenjutsu, Iaijutsu, Sojutsu, Kyudo and finally Karate. Each branch of martial arts focuses on one specific aspect, these range from hand to hand combat skills [Karate], to weapon focused skills [Kenjutsu, Sojutsu, Kyudo] and to finally the more odd and unique focuses [Iaijutsu and Ninjutsu]. With the combined skills and focuses that these branches concentrate on, Elektra has become deadly in almost any situation. Her amazing athletic ability, coupled with her vast martial arts knowledge makes her any enemy’s nightmare.
Weapon Skills – Elektra’s forte lies with particular weaponry that is accustomed to Japanese tradition. Her most famous weapon are the twin sai, but she has been known to use weapons such as shuriken, katana, longbow, naginata, sickle and chain and finally the bo staff. Her marksmanship is incredibly adept, though not superhuman.
Illusionist/Stealth Artist – Due to being a assassin, Elektra has developed the silent skills of the shinobi from her time spent in the Ninjutsu schools. She can quite easily infiltrate any area with ease using her athletic ability coupled with the arts of distraction and illusions. She has been known to make her shadow appear, disappear, reappear to finally disappearing for good. This isn’t a magic trick, this is merely her utilising light and darkness to her advantage.
Linguistic Skills – Elektra speaks English, Japanese and Italian fluently.
Personality:
Elektra’s personality is confusing more than anything. Born a beautiful, loving young girl, she quickly grew to become best friends with the ugly side of life. Her once loving, trusting nature has been replaced with a cold and lifeless interior. Learning only to trust herself, she quickly distances herself from anyone close to her; due to both her work and the need for seclusion. The odd thing is, though reserved and not overly confident, she is still strangely tolerant to conversations when speaking to random individuals. Of course, this could be simply because she is not in her assassin persona, but acting like a normal citizen. Beyond this, Elektra has learnt to control emotions and rarely feels any sort of regret or remorse over her lifestyle.

Mutant Abilities:
Time Bending – Elektra’s mutation occurs only when she is in the height of adrenaline/pain. Essentially, due to the intense functioning of the body, the gene in her body activates and slows down her own perception of time. Now, she isn’t controlling time, but merely bending it to make it lessen its pace and allow her a significant amount more time to react to certain situations. Say she was facing a group of four heavily trained martial artists with the intent of ending her life in one fell swoop. As she would parry, counter, strike and so on, her adrenaline would begin to build. The moment it reaches a certain point, her mind suddenly relaxes and everything takes almost double the amount of time it would to connect. She can then perceive her opponents’ attacks, and respond accordingly. Time goes at a completely normal pace for everyone else, but for her, she is almost a step in front of it.
Weaknesses:
Aside from the obvious limitation that she needs to be experiencing high levels of pain/adrenaline, the mutation has its side effects. If her mutation keeps her in a constant state of slow-time for too long, her bodily functions will suffer from the time manipulation. For example, if she is utilising her gift for more than approximately three minutes, her lungs will begin to fail her and her breathing will slow so much that it will not produce enough oxygen. Same deal for her heart, she can essentially cause her own heart to stop beating by manipulating her own time.
Besides the previously stated limitation, Elektra lacks any form of super-human physical enhancement, and can be put down by normal means. It’s just putting her down, that’s the hard part.
History:
Elektra was born into the wealthy Natchios family. Her father, Nikolas, was a Greek political ambassador whose job never truly allowed him to stay in one actual position. Thus, the family would move from place to place, but their longest stays consisted of the United States and Japan. In fact, Elektra spent the majority of her childhood years in Japan, learning the language and attending highly disciplined schools. She also began attending martial arts schools from the age of 7. Elektra showed great potential, with high grades and almost flawless behaviour during this time, but everything changed one night.
Nikolas was assassinated when Elektra was only 16. With little financial support now behind the family, Julia [Elektra’s mother] could not leave Japan and was restricted to working both daytime shifts and the much darker night shifts which consisted of prostitute-style work. Determined to put her little girl through a proper education, Julia was willing to make that sacrifice. She kept her occupation from Elektra; but like any Shakespeare play, there must be tragedy. Elektra, worried that the financial troubles were taking too much toll on her mother, decided to take matters into her own hands. She moonlighted as an erotic dancer, and would only accept high pay due to her young age. Mother and daughter were deceiving each other, all in the act of love.
Her sensei named Takeshi; saw a fire in the young girls eyes that concerned him, worried that she would become a person whose only goal and skill was the act of taking another’s life. Elektra hoped that one day, she could hunt down the people responsible and take their life as quickly as they destroyed hers. Elektra’s life, was the definition of tragedy and betrayal, and she soon discovered that the person whom carried out Nikolas’ assassination was none other than Takeshi. Distraught by the discovery, Elektra [19 years at this age] confronted Takeshi and his band of assassins. That’s when her mutant gene appeared.
Clearly outclassed by 7 master assassins and Takeshi himself, Elektra was on a one way highway to death. But something happened whilst she was fighting, all she could think of was her father’s smiling face and the face of her mother filled with grief. Everything moved slowly, her heartbeat, her breathing, the movements of her foes; absolutely everything. She suddenly found herself two steps ahead of the enemy, no matter what they tried to do, she was prepared and prompted to retaliate. Brutally murdering the 7 master assassins, she came face to face with her sensei Takeshi, whom told her that she had passed the test. Those were his final words, as she ended his life.
Returning to her mother, she explained what had happened; despite how confronting it was. She told Julia everything, her genetic mutation, her training, her nightlife; Julia was distraught. Distraught not at the fact of the things she had become, but simply because the two of them had been suffering and lying to each other in the acts of love. Elektra expressed that the only way to keep Julia safe was to move back to the United States, and then disappear from her life. Julia refused to lose her daughter, but agreed on moving back to the States.
Back in the states, Elektra and Julia found a place in Boston. But Elektra knew that she could no longer go on living a normal life. Leaving a note for her mother expressing her love, and also expressing a promise to send her something to notify her that she was still alive and living, Elektra moved to the Columbia University. It was during her time at the Columbia University that she met Matthew Murdock, a bookish blind man that she would come to fall in love with. During this time of dating, Elektra and her father had been kidnapped and despite Daredevil’s best efforts to save them, Elektra’s step father perished in the process. This was the final blow to Elektra’s loving personality, and it was destroyed forever. Becoming heartless and cold, the relationship between her and Matt suffered and was broken with Elektra disappearing forever.
This was the beginning of Elektra’s assassin career. It started out slowly, working for small time crime leaders, but steadily increased to a high ranking and a reputation to boot. The nickname Lethal Red [due to her red clothing] had become feared through the streets of highly positioned crime lords and political personnel. Eventually, she found herself in conflict with Daredevil, aka, Matt Murdock. The only thing that prevented her from killing the man was the love that they once shared. Hating herself for feeling it, and knowing he felt it too, she would often back down from him and not kill her designated target. They even found themselves on the same sides occasionally, but it wasn’t until Matt’s greatest enemy, the Kingpin, got involved, which led to Elektra’s untimely death.
Nothing but a dead soul, her body was retrieved shortly afterwards by servants of Apocalypse. Using his limitless intelligence and power, he revived the fallen assassin. Instead of merely placing her under his control, he offered her the opportunities to return to NYC, as long as she answered to his commands and his will. Accepting the offer, Elektra became a official servant of Apocalypse, and returned to the United States. Memories of Daredevil and her death still lodged in her mind, she was no longer killing for money; but killing for Apocalypse.

The feeling of having your heart and breathing rate being tricked into slowing itself down was odd to say the least; and was crippling if held too long. The eyes perceive everything in a slower motion, and the brain becomes confused, telling the bodily functions to lessen its own rate to fit with that which is occurring outside. Limbs having to account for travel time being modified, but actually, the most confusing part was there was no difference in travel time. It was all a giant magic trick that gave the woman nicknamed Lethal Red a distinct advantage over her opponents. When the world went slower than she was travelling, she found more time to analyse the surroundings and well, analyse her own motions and criticise herself for any flaws that may be apparent.
In short, to Elektra, it was all controlled by her mind. The dodging of a knife, the prediction of where a bullet will land when factored in with recoil; it all had to be analysed in the extended period of time her mutation allowed. It was the same when scaling and scrambling across buildings in the blanket of night. Flying through the air, the heart pumping with adrenaline from the thrill of defying gravity, mind analysing when to curl into a roll at the direct point of landing; it had to be analysed.
Blood. Not mine, probably stained across my arms or legs. she noted to herself as the familiar stale smell of warm bodily blood filled her nose as she soared through the air with a athletic grace. Landing and rolling atop a rooftop, she pushed herself behind a air conditioning vat and brought her hands delicately across her arms; wiping the blood away. Allowing her body to return to a normal pace, she sat down slowly and rested. More kills tonight, which meant more pay. Who would have thought keeping a reputation like this up could be quite so effortless?
