++Application for Enrollment++
The Person
Name: Augustus “Gus” Hagan
Age: 31
Place of Birth: Benton, Alabama
Applying too: Friends of Humanity
In what capacity: former SHIELD agent “reprogrammed” into F.o.H’s secret weapon.
Family: Lacey Hagan [mother, alive], Bryce Hagan [father, estranged], Dorothy-Anne Lisbon [sister, married]
Height: 6’3”
Weight: 210 pounds
Appearance:
Gus looks, upon first impression, like the all American guy. He’s tall, coming to about six three, with a solid built frame that’s compliments of the U.S. Marines. He has short blonde hair and light brown eyes that glow gold when using his powers. He has a squared jaw and features that are solidly inherited from his father and scream military. When not in costume he’s found wearing plain shirts and jeans and a bit snug fitting for a guy his size.
Skills: Gus has received training mainly in espionage and stealth through working for SHIELD in their Black Ops department; giving him the means to be an accomplished thief. He has been trained in hand to hand combat and firearms through his time in the Marines. Aside from military related skills, Gus is a bit of a tech nerd (something that relates to his abilities that alter electrical fields) and loves to tinker with appliances.
Personality: Gus is, at his core, a Southern gentleman. Surly, sarcastic, and a bit too serious for his own good, but a gentleman none the less. He has a typically easy going nature when he’s not in mission mode. When he is, however, Gus is very direct, to the point, and has no problem shutting down banter in order to get his objectives finished. He’s very determined and stubborn, to a point where he can be downright annoying. However, his temper can be a bit of a problem. It doesn’t result in some sort of explosion. It’s actually cool, simmering, and incredibly unpredictable. He’s a man that things revenge is best served cold. He tries to maintain that he’s a good Southern man.
Now that that’s out of the way… There is the issue of his personality since the Friends of Humanity got a hold of him.
Since his reprogramming, Gus’ temper seems to be extremely fragile. He feels like there’s time in his life missing. He remembers being in the Marines. He remembers his powers but somehow doesn’t remember accepting them. Instead, his mind has snapped. He’s been reprogrammed to think his abilities to be a freak and his old acquaintances are simply shadows in his subconscious. If he comes across something familiar that he feels like he should know but can’t grasp because of his altercations, he flips out. Also, he does still relapse and finds himself in places that he would frequent before the F.o.H. and gets confused. He feels as if he’s trying to remember something but can’t quite put his finger on what he’s supposed to remember. When he hears a certain frequency, however, Gus snaps. He becomes violent and unstable; acting as if everyone is his enemy. His military and SHIELD training has made him into the perfect soldier. With his powers and the reprogramming compliments of the Friends of Humanity, Gus Hagan is a weapon against the stain they call “mutants.” They’ve implanted him with a sense of needing to repent for being different.

The Mutant
Codename: Pulse
Mutant Abilities: Gus sends out a frequency of psychic and electrical energy. While it doesn’t harm people, per se, it comes in handy defensively. The psychic frequency shuts off all mutant powers within a twenty foot radius of his person. It weakens super powers that aren’t spawned by the Xgene. Also it jams Psychics from being able to read his and or anyone else’s thoughts within the area of his psychic field. This also jams electrical fields; allowing him to get by alarms and other surveillance without a problem as well as interfering with communication devices with his radius. He can turn these fields on and off, however, the only one that is constantly on is a defense mechanism that constantly protects himself from psychic interference. When he is using the powers, his eyes glow yellow when he uses these abilities.
Weaknesses: Gus’ powers don’t do anything to protect him physically. He is still very mortal and very human. Also, with his abilities, he currently cannot pick and choose whose powers or what frequencies to shut down. He turns on his powers and everyone in a twenty foot radius is shut down. That said, if someone were to attack long range, Gus would still be vulnerable. His advantages, other than being able to protect himself from telepathy, are strictly close range.
History: Augustus Hagan grew up in the small town of Benton, Alabama. A town that barely qualified as that considering there was about 80 people living there. His childhood, while nothing extravagant, was nothing bad. Actually, he holds no resentments for his hometown or his family. He was the first child of Lacey and Bryce Hagan; named after his grandfather on his mother’s side. His family had no real understanding of what mutants were and neither did his town. Hell, it was a running joke from any of the big cities that people from Benton barely had an understanding of the television! So, with Gus, it was a bit of a shock that he had no idea he was a mutant when he was a teenager. When there were problems with electrical interference, the people of Benton just blamed it on the weather or the county’s inability to take care of the phone lines. Gus had an average life until a marine recruiter passed through Benton during his senior year. It hadn’t taken much convincing and the young man enlisted; sparking a huge fight with the family.
Gus left after graduation without his father’s blessing and into basic training. He performed at the top but there was a problem, whenever he would become strained, his eyes would glow and all of the electrical devices around him would jam up; something that was actually very fatal in regards to communicating during drills and later missions. His superiors were suspicious of what caused this and noted that the problems occurred only when Gus was around. He tested positive for the X-gene and was further referred to SHIELD in hopes of figuring out just what his abilities were. All the while, Gus didn’t object. He was far too easy going for his own good and also considered himself to be doing good for his country (though when he was transferred to SHIELD, it was now on a global level). They tested the extent of Gus’ powers; discovering that he could shut down X-genes of mutants within a certain radius of him and jam up electrical frequencies. With a power like this, the young man was recommended to train for espionage and black ops division of SHIELD.
Gus spent three years under SHIELD’s employ as a key member of infiltration teams. During this time he actually loved his job. To the point where most would almost call him nuts for returning from a mission with that boyish grin plastered on his face but he didn’t care. He was doing something that was helping the world (in his own somewhat naïve opinion). He stayed constantly busy during his time in SHIELD, knowing most of his fellow agents from a bit of a distance and only fraternizing with his teammates in occasion for the occasional celebratory drink. He was friendly to most aside from when he was in mission mode. It was only a matter of time, though, before he garnered attention that wasn’t from SHIELD’s board of directors. While out on his night off, Gus was abducted by operatives under the Friends of Humanity’s employ. He was brought into captivity.
Thus began several months that have blurred from Gus’ memory that he can only seem to recollect in his nightmares.
Gus Hagan was tortured until a breaking point. While his will was degraded to that of putty. From there, Gus’ history was rebuilt and his values sculpted anew. Now, Gus Hagan remembered being in the Marines and joining up for the last three years with the FoH. They told him he moved up in their ranks and was now one of the men on the front line on their battle against the mutant abomination. They made Gus think of his mutation as a curse that proved a useful tool for the cause of Humanity’s preservation. His injuries sustained from his “re-education” were supposedly from a car accident. He was in the hospital for a few weeks until being released. Upon sending Gus on his first assignment, they noticed certain drawbacks that kept Gus from carrying any commands out. His morals. So, he was reeducated yet again and to ensure success, he was essentially trained to respond to a certain electrical pitch frequency that would turn him into the weapon they needed. Slowly, as they’ve been noticing Gus’ compliance to their program, they’ve allowed him out. He still has no knowledge of ever working for SHIELD but does come across things he finds familiar which frustrate him. Formerly part of the world’s most elite police force, Gus has now been reduced to a self-loathing thug for the Friends of Humanity. There is no telling what he’ll be used for now or if he’ll ever figure out who he used to be.

Gus looked up at the building. Twenty floors, ten of which had windows facing the alley way in which the man stood. Perfect. He pulled the black mask over his features and dug into the duffel bag that was strapped to him and pulled out a gun that fired a grappling hook. Up it soared about eighteen floors before latching onto the windowsill. He attached the gun to his belt and started the climb upwards with out as much as a word. He stopped at the eighth floor and perched against the windowsill and pulled the gun that fired the line that he’d used to climb and retracted the rope back into its origin.
His eyes lit up in a glowing yellow color as he waited until the subtle buzz from the alarm to simmer into nothing. At that moment, he popped the window open and slipped in; noting the surveillance cameras had shut off. He smirked to himself behind his mask and quickly made his way to the elevator. It was the old fashioned kind and Gus wondered to himself why people couldn’t afford to spring for a new elevator system when they held things like valuable research facilities in their top floor. He pushed back the gate; not bothering to try for the button since it wouldn’t work. He leapt out to grab the cable and hung there for a moment before looking up. Again, he started to climb. The only light coming from the elevator track were the glow of his eyes.
He made it to the nineteenth floor and swung to the edge where what could be a painful freefall met the side. He pried open the gate and left the terminal alone as he continue on his way down the hall and to the door he’d been instructed to go to. With his eyes still alight he noted the keypad’s inactivity. Again, Gus smirked to himself and pushed the door open with little resistance from the lock. He walked in meeting what looked like a group of soldiers dressed similarly to him and pulled his mask up over his head. “An’ tha’s hows it’s done. Any questions?” he asked as he watched several hand go up and grinned to himself.

Player: Em
Any plans in mind for the character? Well I’m still playing with ideas for him, but I was thinking about him starting out as a guy from shield that was captured and pretty much “reprogrammed” by the Friends of Humanity; implanting a feeling of self loathing and making him into a weapon of sorts against mutant kind.
Do you agree to the rules: Never. jk.
Credit Where It’s Due: Got his name and powers from Marvel Wiki and Comicvine. He was only in a handful of issues so there wasn’t much on him.
