[b]A Tale of Two Academies…[/b]
They said we would never witness evolution, it happens too slowly.
They were [b]wrong[/b].
For decades, perhaps even longer, individuals have been born, and over time shown remarkable abilities like nothing the world has ever seen before. These people, gifted with strange and often dangerous abilities, are known as mutants.
There were some mutants in a position to find others of their kind. However, those same mutants were also in a position to know that humanity was not ready for such people. And so two academies were formed to train these youngsters to control their newfound abilities. One, the Massachusetts Academy formed by Emma Frost, the other, Xaviers School for Gifted Youngsters, formed by Charles Xavier and Eric Lehnsherr. For a time these secret training programs managed to stay under the radar.
Unseen forces were already conspiring against these mutants, a rogue splinter cell of S.H.I.E.L.D known as 'Hydra' sent the world a message by massacring the sewer dwelling mutants known as the Morlocks. Lehnsherr defected from his school and launched a counter attack with his own new team 'The Brotherhood'. Because of this, the mutant registration act came into effect. Mutants were no longer afforded secrets from the world.
Then [b][i]he[/i][/b] rose.
En Sabah Nur, known to many as Apocalypse took the world in his grip. South America and Africa were the first to fall. All humans in these areas become slaves and mutants either join his cause voluntarily or are controlled by mind controlling nano-technology. Slave labour pours out a constant stream of weapons and Sentinels fuelling Apocalypse's military might.
In what remains of the United States, The Friends of Humanity call for all mutants to be drafted into the military and their abilities put to use on the front line. The X-men and the Hellions call for mutants rights to be upheld, while doing their part to defend their homes. The Brotherhood, now living safely in the massive Asteroid M, begin launching a series of hit and run campaigns against Apocalypse, considering him the greater threat.
