It was late at night and the young mutate made her way to the bathrooms. Not because she had to go, but because she wanted company. Being alone wasn't something she really liked but thought it would be best to happen. Once she reached her destination, the orange girl with the reptilian eyes, climbed up onto the counter. She blinked at her reflection and laid her head against the glass.
Tonight she was going to work on speaking. Cid didn't have high hopes for it, but she was going to try anyway. Her tail flicked back and forth as she took a deep breath. Her mouth opened to speak to her reflection and all that came out was a rusty squeak. The girl tried for several minutes and nothing happened. The effort made her throat ache and she hung her head. Cid decided to take a few minutes and try again.

Ororo had been spending her time in the Danger Room as of late, training and honing her already formidable skills. One could never be too prepare for things or have to pmuch practice. She'd been practicing against those large and intimidating robots known as Sentinels. The battle was fierce and long, but Ororo prevailed victorious. You never knew when those things could attack again only under the control of someone much more powerful and malicious. Every time she thought about Apocalypse her skin crawled. If she thought Magneto was a horrible representation of mutants, this guy was... heck she couldn't even describe him.
After the Danger Room session, she felt the need to shower away the sweat and aches. With a towel draped over her shoulders, Ororo sauntered through the hallways until she reached the bathing area. She opened the door and her brown eyes rested on the young girl inside starting in the mirror. "Oh, excuse me. I didn't realize someone was in here."

Cid tried once more to make her voice work. She could yelp, whimper, and growl, but she couldn't form the words. It had been so long since she spoke, she was seriously beginning to fear that she wouldn't be able to again. Her mouth worked as she tried to form the words. Maybe if she could get her mouth to form the words, then her voice would realize what it was supposed to do, and follow suit.
Reptilian eyes widened when she saw Storm through the mirror and was already scurrying up the wall before the words came out of the woman's mouth. The orange girl was now stuck to the ceiling and looking down at the intruder. Her tail twitched nervously and she was ready to bolt if the woman was mean to her or scared of her. The girl's head turned to the side as she looked at the woman, waiting to see what she should do.

Before she could finish speaking the young girl had scampered up the wall. Ororo looked at her for a moment to recognize who she was. She was one of the new students, Viscid is what they called her. Yea, she was knew since she seemed to be frightened by the woman's presence. Everyone int he mansion knew that Ororo was one of the nicest persons alive and acted like a mother to them all. Though lately she had become a little less tolerant of misbehavior and bickering than she once used to be. She was still the same kind, gentle woman. "Viscid, is it? You have nothing to worry about, child. I mean you no harm."
Ororo stepped into the bathroom and looked up at her. "You can come down from there." She didn't know a lot about the girl, but she did know that she had a bit of trouble with others. Nothing she hadn't dealt with before though.

Reptilian eyes blinked out at Storm from beneath the hood. Carefully the girl started to climb down the wall as she took in both comments. Her mouth opened and a rusty squeak came out of her mouth. Then she remembered the woman said her name and she nodded her head. The orange girl smacked her chest the wall, showing that she was sticking to it. Viscid was another word for sticky, and she liked it. So, she started to think of herself by that name, though she'd nearly forgotten her birth name.
The young mutate was getting frustrated with her inability to communicate properly. She had never talked much, but at some point she had known how. Tears started to gather in her eyes, as her mouth worked once more trying to form words.

Ororo nodded to her when she patted her chest and the wall. Don't know why but it just now donned on her why the girl had chosen that name. She shook her head a bit for not catching that one sooner. It was apparent that the girl was either too shy to speak or that she actually couldn't speak. Ororo hoped that it was the former since working on shyness was much easier than the latter. "Yes, viscid means sticky." She smiled. Ororo walked over to the mirror and looked at herself as she laid the towel on the counter. Here eyes went back to the girl, noticing that her eyes were starting to water up. "What's the matter, dear? Is there something wrong?" she asked in her soft and motherly tone.

Cid nodded her head vigorously, almost falling off the wall, when Storm said that viscid meant sticky. She understood! It was easier to talk to Jean because it was all mental. It was the vocal part that she couldn't get down. When the woman asked her what was the matter, a tear leaked down the young girl's face a she tapped her throat with, what looked like a claw, or just really pointy nails. She opened her mouth and the rusty squeak came out again. A wince touched her features as the effort to speak after so long was costing her. But Cid wouldn't give up and kept trying to work her mouth and throat to make words come out. She'd met some really nice people and she couldn't even say thank you. It annoyed her to no end and made her want to hide all over again.

"You can come to me, child. Everything is fine." She understood what the girl meant when she tapped her throat. She tried to speak but all that came out was a little squeak. Ororo was starting to get that motherly feeling mode again as she wanted to wrap her arms around the girl in an embrace. She turned around and leaned against the counter, looking to the girl. "I gather that you are having trouble with speaking? I will try my best to help you." It could be a simple matter of sore throat. But no, the way she moved and the pain in her eyes said else.

Viscid climbed down the wall and stood up right, her full five feet in height. That was the one thing the girl could do was walk on two legs, and run on them as well. Carefully she took a step towards Storm and stopped a few feet in front of her. When the woman asked her if she had trouble speaking she nodded her head. It was the one thing she never thought she'd have to worry about again, since nobody ever talked to her anyway. She could make all sorts of sounds but words were a problem for her. She gave the woman a small wave and a shy smile that quickly vanished. Her tail swished back and forth. Maybe this lady could help her talk, that would be nice. Then she could actually speak to a couple of people that had been kind of nice to her, like the boy in the rain and the lady in the kitchen. Viscid hopped up onto the counter and she sat down. Her short legs swung back and forth as reptilian eyes blinked at the woman.

The girl seemed shorter now that she was standing right in front of her. Ororo placed a soothing hand on her shoulder. Today would be a unique challenge for the Nubian beauty. She didn't have children so she'd never taught a person how to speak before. Hmph, in a way this could be some practice for when that day might actually come. The girl could already making little noises and since she was older, she should be able to pickup on the syllables easily to form words. Ororo sat back against the counter, using her hands for support. "First off, is there anything that you know how to say? Any syllables?"

The orange girl rubbed her cheek against the hand that Ororo rested on her shoulder. Truth be told, Cid was an affectionate little thing, as well as a bundle of energy and light. Odd considering she's spent her most informative years, in darkness and being alone. The girl's tali flicked back and forth and she concentrated. She made a few sounds of yelps, growls and hisses at first. Then her mouth formed an 'O'. "Oooooooooooh" It sounded almost like a howl or a ghostly sound, but there was her syllable. Then she grinned up at Ororo and nodded. Then she made another sound. "Aaaaaaaaaah." It was the same sound she made when she'd point to her mouth and poke her belly.

Oddly enough when the girl rubbed her cheek against her hand, Ororo was reminded of a little puppy. Trying to teach her how to speak was going to be a difficult task, but she was up for it. She snickered a bit at the howling sound that she assumed was supposed to be the "O" sound. A good first try on the soundings, but it wouldn't do. "Good good. Ooh is O aah is A. Now try the rest of the vowel sounds, E I and U." She nodded with a smile, thinking that the U sound was probably going to sound like how it was said in Spanish.

Contrary to popular belief, Cid wasn't stupid, just unlearned. Her head tilted and she studied Ororo as she spoke. What she studied was the way the woman moved her mouth to form the letters and listened to the sounds. The orange girl made an 'o' with her mouth and just worked her mouth in that form for several minutes. Then she made an aaaaaah sound, like when you have your throat checked at the doctors. Slowly she brought her lips into the 'O' form once more. "Ooh" Reptilian eyes lit up and she looked at Ororo excitedly. She got it! At least she thought she did. "Aah." The other ones gave her a bit of trouble, so she spent the next several minutes just working out the lip movements.
