++Application for Enrollment++
The Person
Name:Ryan Michael Taylor
Age:17
Place of Birth: England, Oxford
Applying too: Xavier's
In what capacity: Student
Family:
Michael and Betty Taylor (parents) Karla Taylor (sister)
Height: six foot
Weight: 190lbs
Appearance:
Standing at six foot he is quite heavily built with wide shoulders and neck which is impressive considering his age. A sparse spatter of facial hair that has been "trimmed to style" when in actual fact it just doesn't grow in some places.
Ryan is often seen wearing casual sports gear like hoodies and tracksuit bottoms, though is known to dress in shirts and jeans when the situation dictates.
When he goes into the field he'll wear loose cargo pants and a dark t-shirt, keeping himself free to move without the constraints of tight clothing.
Ryan's time learning Tai-Chi has given him somewhat of a light step, being quite taken with meditation and the grace of the martial art. As well as the confidence to always look forwards when he walks and never at the floor.
Also likes hats such of all varieties and is often seen playing with them in his room.
On days that don't great him with a welcome morning or if he is suffering from a hangover, Ryan will often be seen wearing full length tops and gloves and sometimes even a bandanna over his face, when his mind is not clear it is easier for the control on his power to slip and end up hurting someone.
Skills:
Proficient in tai-chi Started studying at the local club whilst he was still at school and did so until his powers activated, he is a competent practitioner and enjoys every minute of the training and has found that he has built up the muscle memory and reflexes to use it as and when necessary. Obviously using it at full speed in combat.
Meditation Part of Tai-chi is about being relaxed and controlling your breathing, this lead Ryan to briefly look into meditation, and it was this skill of meditation that allowed him to keep his powers in check.
Adept computer skills Being a teenager in the 21st century has given him access to a computer with Internet access since he was able to sit up straight, as such he can find his way around them better than most and has a passing interest in coding(read half a 'how to program' book and played around with website mark-up languages), hacking(played various games like 'uplink' and looked at software to do with it, never actually attempted to put what he has learned into practice) and graphic design(can find his way around a graphics package like photoshop but won't be dishing out any masterpieces).
Weight lifting Some times he likes to sit down and just think about things other times call for explosive powerful movements, though not power lifter standard Ryan knows his way around a gym and has the body to prove it.
Keen intellect For all the physical activity he does in his life his brain is not wasted, whilst in school or studying in Xavier's classrooms he doesn't have a problem grasping maths or science, though not a genius he is far from the bottom of his class.
Personality:
Easy going and confidant especially when in a gym or dojo. The gym is his playground, having spent so much time in both places whether just training at the gym or running through some forms in tai-chi. Here is where he is most relaxed, and the training area at the institute is slowly becoming another playground, albeit a dangerous one.
When among his friends he smiles and is pretty happy go lucky, an obvious after effect of having such loving parents, he trusts easy and puts a lot of faith in his friends. He values them in very much the same way his parents valued him. To him a life is a very special and miraculous thing and would probably hesitate if put in the situation where he had to end one.
When it comes to competition Ryan like to keep it light, he has no interest is hurting anyone's feelings and so, unless in a class, will hold back so that his friends can win. Winning means little to Ryan it is the taking part which he enjoys.
When in lessons he is astute and follows closely to what the instructor is saying, has always been like that in school, after all the world is a dangerous place, someday he may need the lesson he isn't listening too.
Something that makes him lose his temper more than anything else is complete anti-mutant fascism, and complete pro-mutant fascism. He believes that there must be a way the two people can live together and without the grief that everyone thinks there would be. He believe this so strongly that he would openly argue with staff about it and would have no problems smashing a brotherhoods face in to protect an innocent human.
On days that his meditative process doesn't immediately work he can get very frustrated, believing that controlling his power should be as easily as closing a fist, if the morning doesn't greet him well he can very much be in a bad mood for the entire day.

The Mutant
Codename: Tesla
Mutant Abilities:
Electrokinesis: Ryan's body has a supercharged electrical potential.
Through mutation his heart and brain have changed in a way that allows them to produce and electric charge, where most humans have electrical potential at millivolts Ryan's is measured in thousands of volts. As such his body has changed to adjust to the amount of energy inside of it.
Enhanced physiology
As a result of the charged cells he has increased strength, speed and toughness, being able to press around twice his body weight (350lbs), run both short and long distance at an athlete level, (100m ~ 10s, marathon ~ 2.25 hours) and is also harder to seriously injure.
Enhanced neurology with so many electrical signals running through his body his neurology has adapted so that more information can be sent and processed at anyone time, thus increasing his ability to process information and increasing his reaction times.
Electric Discharge Ryan is capable of discharging all the extra energy through skin to skin contact, though the electricity has been seen to arc out of his body. It is only through a clear mind and practice that he withdraws the discharge, without the control he would be like a live wire, frying anyone that comes close.
Ball lighting The first year of training at Xavier's institute gave him the space and time to focus his electrical charge into a weapon. It wasn't easy but he is able to focus the charge on his hands and pool the electricity making what he calls a 'ball of lightning' and with a thrust can throw the ball at a target.
Weaknesses:
exploitable trust Being so happy go lucky is fine until someone wants you to do something that isn't so virtuous, Ryan won't willingly trust a stranger out of the blue but if someone close to him wanted to manipulate him his trust would see him following them along.
The trust also extends to his five senses and because he has never seen anything close to real combat he is extremely susceptible to psychic attacks, illusions and any other mind/sense altering attack.
Difficult to control power Ryan's powers have only really been active in the past two years, and as such during the night he must sleep in an insulated bed and every morning focus his mind and body to keep the power under wraps.
Because of this fact he has never had a girlfriend and though isn't shy around them has never ever attempted to get one, the idea of frying them to a crisp doesn't appeal to him.
One way flow Ryan's electricity all comes from what his mutated heart and brain, because of this he is unable to absorb external sources of power. meaning that if he gets hit with an electric based attack he will feel it full force.
Draining Ryan is like a walking constantly recharging battery, the exact charge the he can hold at any one time is unknown. Energy that is used must be recharged, the electricity production is linked to his metabolism meaning the food he eats will be converted into energy that it used by his mutated innards.
When he uses all of his energy he will physically collapse, though he doesn't make a habit of it because it is very similar to waking up after a REALLY messy night out, when he is running low he merely needs to have a bite to eat and rest. From complete exhaustion to a full tank currently takes about two days of bed rest and good food.
History:
Born in the sprawling cities of Oxford England to Betty and Michael Taylor the first fifteen years of his life were pretty average, he was a good kid that got on well with others and managed to avoid slipping into the wrong crowd.
His father enrolled him and his older sister into the local tai-chi for kids club, a simple affair that he thought would bring the two siblings closer together. It did, and the two of them had a whale of a time, he was 9 and she was 11. Though after two years she found boys and decided that they were more important than tai-chi but Ryan remained.
When he went to secondary school at 11 it was easier than it should have been to blend in with the crowd and just live with a smile on his face and books underarm. To say that he wasn't noticed by the big kids of the school would be wrong but there was always a better target.
Ryan's family wasn't rich and so never had the latest shoes or watches, he brought a packed lunch, which was stolen a couple of times, but after they realized that mustard and mayonnaise sandwiches weren't worth a detention they soon stopped.
It was around his Fifteenth birthday that his powers came to the forefront, his sister and mum had a massive argument about the legitimacy of her new 26 year old boyfriends 'feelings' for her. Now Ryan loved his sister and hated when the two of them argued, which as they got older happened more and more frequently.
Being the brave martial artist he finally had had enough and ran downstairs to tell them to shut the hell up or he'll go full speed on their asses, as he did he went into the kitchen and the coffee machine exploded, as did the bulbs above him and the microwave.
He dropped to the floor and started crying in fear, he had stopped the argument but as his dad tried to pull him from the burning husk of a kitchen he got an electric shock, the powers were weak and so was nothing more than a bit of static and was thought of as much. A second go at contact meant another shock. That was the evening they found out he was a mutant.
Several weeks later, through the use of rubber gloves, boots and well almost everything, his parents tried to care for him. They took him out of school and spent some time home schooling him. It was a mixed affair they loved him dearly, feared him, yet still joked and took the mick out of him "I would hug you but... then you'd have to scrape me off the carpet," was his mother favourite.
One time there was a localized blackout which happened to occur during their favourite show. Ryan merely held up his gloved hands "plug me in!" and the show went on.
The community was anti-mutant, they weren't. Betty and Michael Taylor loved their son very much, mutant or not, in fact not even his sister had a problem she could hardly be jealous in her eyes he was disabled and it was hilarious.
When Xavier turned up at the door, it was like a gift from the heavens, his parents were stressed trying to hide him from the neighbours and the world outside. They were sad to see him go but not selfish or naive enough to think they could raise their son this way, covered in rubber and other insulated paraphernalia. So he left Oxford and headed to Xavier's school, his parents call him once a week and as far as they know no one ever expected a thing.
As the year passed Ryan made plenty of friends and never once did his powers slip, got in the gym and started bulking up incredibly quickly found that he had massive physical potential happily competing with the other students in physical lessons, in races and power exercises. He even went as far as to figure away of concentrating his electricity into an offensive weapon that didn't need contact, it was fun to do but far from easy.
When the school was bombed Ryan was out of town, his parents had come to visit and were staying in the the nearby town. When the bombing happened Ryan left his parents in a rush, letting loose his power into his legs running at incredible speeds, when he got there it was too late.
He was soon picked up from the wreckage by one of Emma Frost's students and invited to her school, and it is now there where he studies, the first thing he did when he got there, called his mum and told him he was all right.
RP Sample:
Another sunny morning is Massachusetts, the weather here was very bland either sunny or wet. That was the USA all over though, as Ryan stared out of the wooden framed stain glass windows of his private rooms his mind wandered over the centering exercises he did every morning. A small light bulb with two copper wires attached to it sat on his bed side table. When he was done centering himself he would touch the wires and if the bulb lit up then he would have to try harder.
It felt a lot like pushing a spring down, the harder you pushed the more it pushed back so the trick was to push it down just a little, so that it took nearly no thought at all to keep it down there. Then the hard part of latching it compressed, that was where the centering exercises came into it, and as he touched the wires he hoped that he wouldn't have to waste another fifteen minutes breathing and focusing.
Gripping the two copper wires he smiled as the little bulb remained dead, with a quick flick of his arms he very roughly made his rubber lined bed sheets.
"Now on to the fun part!
