++Application for Enrolment++
The Person
Name: Robert “Bobby” Louis Drake
Age: 23
Place of Birth: Boston, Massachusetts
Applying too: Xavier’s
In what capacity: Gunning for senior member of the X-men and student?
Family: William Robert Drake (father), Madeline Beatrice Bass Drake (mother), Mary (cousin), Joel (cousin), Anne (aunt)
Height: 5’8”
Weight: 145 lbs
Appearance:
Skills: Since being at the Xavier Institute for the last few years, Bobby has been trained in hand-to-hand combat along with other forms of tactile training. He also is a master at pranks, decent with math, and practices in the fine art of Playstation.
Personality: Bobby has been, and always will be, a city boy. When he does want to bother with working on something, he prefers it fast paced so it doesn’t drag out. He is a fun-loving, comical guy; using sarcasm as a weapon as much as his powers. He doesn’t necessarily care that much about trying to reach his full potential with his powers. What he is concerned with, however, is how his body seems to have taken the form of biological ice over the years. Unbeknownst to him, this condition is actually self-inflicted. Psychologically, he doesn’t necessarily want to change back. He is not happy where he is in the least bit. His family hates him for what he is and he’s not finding anything along the lines of family at the Xavier Institute.
He’s a friendly guy, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that he has formed a connection with that person. It’s just how he is. He has been known to be very laid back and a bit of a prankster, but that is slowly fading. It seems that Bobby Drake has isolated himself from the rest of the world and furthered that detachment sub-consciously by the gradual shift from flesh to ice. He seems to be at odds with his powers considering the fact that they are just fun to have, but on the other hand, he hasn’t faced much acceptance from the family that he thought would love him no matter what. Two years have passed since his estrangement from the Drake family and all that seems to have come of it is that his body is now completely made of ice and a sense of bitter cold that can sometimes be a bit chilling by just looking at how miserable Bobby is at times. He tries to grin and joke through it, but even that is starting to fade.
The way that most perceive Bobby is that he’s immature. To an extent, that is most certainly true. Bobby’s insecurities and inability to accept change usually result in the veil of brutal honesty and childlike humor. Bobby is much like the very ice he manipulates. Transparent. He has no problems saying exactly what he thinks or owning up to his emotions. While this can make him a bit too much for some people, he will be up front when he’s wrong. Unfortunately, his anxieties and fears can mutate into moodiness that can sometimes tend to push people away.

The Mutant
Codename: Iceman
Mutant Abilities: Bobby actually has the makings to be one of the twelve most powerful mutants in the world… at least he would be if he actually bothered to explore his full potential. Bobby Drake has a rather advanced rendition of the ability to control the temperature of the available moisture in the air; allowing him to slow down or speed up molecules to the point where it freezes or boils. He can alter this to a point where he can just make the available atmosphere colder, create condensation within the air; create snow, along with very thick ice. He can also alter his body temperature the same way. Because of this he can withstand subzero temperatures easily and heat up his body until it is about 105 degrees Fahrenheit.
The ice that Bobby is able to create is unusually hard and pliable for whatever purpose Bobby sees fit. This allows him to form simple objects like shields, bats, slides (which he uses as a preferred form of transportation), and ladders and have them work just as well as the real thing. He can augment the moisture in the air in order to have the water molecules around him to stick to his form in order to create sheen of ice over his body that proves as an improvised form of armor. He can pull more moisture from the air in order to strengthen his durability and strength when iced up. This also allows him to change his shape based on the amount of moisture available to him, he can increase his size to that of a giant if he so wished to. He can also repair his ice form as a sort of healing trick when transformed; using the water molecules in the air.
This power has evolved to a point where Bobby could change his entire body into organic ice. As a secondary mutation, instead of covering himself in layers of ice he becomes it. This allows him a greater degree of potency with his ice manipulation. Also, Bobby has been known to repair his entire body after being shattered or melted by kinetically pulling the water and ice around him together to rebuild himself. If he were to apply himself, he would be capable of so much more. Transportation through the water molecules in the air or through the currents of bodies of water, being able to freeze a person’s blood in order to kill them, cryogenically freezing someone in order to slow the process of dying and putting them into a coma like state, ect. This much power comes at a price.
Weaknesses: Bobby’s powers are a direct reflection of his confidence. If he doesn’t think he can do something, he won’t. Because of the degree of potential he possesses, it’s a bit overwhelming to someone as young as Bobby. The amount of pressure sometimes provides a hindrance to the development with his powers. He doesn’t want to be this strong and kind of resents being what he is all together because of the problems is has caused his personal life. On top of that, Bobby can subconsciously stifle his own abilities. Without knowing it, he can create his own drawbacks. His current situation now is a primary example. His secondary mutation to become organic ice was something that Bobby didn’t think he could control. So now, he can’t and has, thus, created the inability to change back into his original human form. He creates his own psychic blocks that subconsciously protect him from seeing his true potential because he is simply afraid of it. Because he doesn’t know his ability is completely reliant on his own attitude, he finds a great deal of frustration with everything around him, including the Institute since thus far no one can figure out why he is stuck as a living ice cube.
History: Robert “Bobby” Louis Drake was born the only child to William and Beatrice Drake in Boston Mass. Bobby’s initial years were of little consequence. The years shaped him into a humorous young man that dealt with the world around him with brutal honest and a defense mechanism made of laughs. When he hit his teens, Bobby noticed that he constantly had been feeling cold and that he couldn’t stop shivering. He got control of it and, afraid of what was happening to him, didn’t say anything about it. It wasn’t until a bully and his gang attacked Bobby and his then girlfriend that he displayed his powers and encased his attackers in ice in a panic. Thinking Bobby to be a threat, the people in his neighborhood organized to form a lynch mob to take care of the menace. They broke into the Drake home and took him. The sheriff broke up the assembly and took Bobby into custody for his own protection.
That was where he met the likes of Charles Xavier and his small group of X-men for the first time. Their attempt to break him out proved to be a failure as Bobby initially refused to go with them. As the mob found the young mutants and readied themselves to hang them. They broke free and Xavier wiped Bobby’s status as a mutant from the mob’s mind. Grateful, Bobby accepted the second invitation and has been a member for the last two years and is one of the original mutants enrolled in the school.
Over the last two years, Bobby has defined himself as the comic relief of the group for the majority of the time. Thanks to the circumstances that revolved around the surfacing of Bobby’s abilities, his parents have since stopped talking to him. Distraught by this, he had originally plunged into depression. That coupled with the pressure he feels he’s under to live up to his potential, Bobby became his own worst enemy. After suffering a rather nasty wound where his chest shattered while in his ice form, Bobby found he could repair himself. Unfortunately, that sparked a secondary mutation where instead of just being able to coat himself with ice, he was able to become an organic form of ice. Overwhelmed by this new development, the ice spread throughout his entire body and he hasn’t been able to change himself back.
Bobby has been finding his inability to control this secondary mutation frustrating; especially when he is receiving no assistance since his instructors claim that he needs to figure it out on his own. Because of this, Bobby has started pushing people away as well as accepting the way he is. If one were to go into his room, the room he shares with his roommate has half of it practically all encased in ice. Unable to handle this new change has left Bobby very moody and easy to influence. He’s questioning if he truly belongs at the Institute.
RP Sample:
It was supposedly cold out. He couldn’t tell. He hadn’t been able to in a while. Being made entirely of ice tended to do that. There was just a numb feeling there instead of those feelings between hot and cold. Everything was cold but he had surpassed that to the constant tingle of frostbite that nagged in the back of his lucid blue skin. Looking briefly in the ice-coated mirror in his room, Bobby Drake remembered when he had sand colored hair and brown eyes. Now… now his hair was comprises of intricate strands of ice and his eyes had glossed over with a cold blue sheen that even made him shiver if he looked at himself for too long. He exhaled a frosted breath that displayed in a slight bit of mist before he opened his drawers and slipped on a t-shirt over his torso. Glancing at the mirror once more, Bobby sent a fist rocketing to the glass, shattering it but the shards moved nowhere; encased in the same type of ice that his entire body was comprised of. It was then he looked outside where frost had compiled on the inside of his windowsill.
Forcing a smile on his face, Bobby pushed back the resentment that was weighing heavy on his heart. As cold as it was, the icy organ still picked up as he tried to put on a brave expression to keep people from knowing that he minded being a walking ice cube. Scooping up his baseball mitt and slipping it on his hand, his free hand sent a stream of ice on his roommate’s bed that would be a hilarious surprise later. Putting a ball cap on his head, Bobby shot another stream of ice to make a slide and started to skate down the hall and out the doors to join in the game. All the while, the consequences of his potential nagged at the back of his mind.

++OOC Info++
Player: Em (I also play Nightcrawler)
Any plans in mind for the character? I intend on kindo f drawing from the time span when Iceman was made of organic ice and couldn't change back. For some reason I feel like it was one of the rare times where Bobby had a bit more depth to him. With this present insecurity, it would leave him open to be coerced into switching sides.
