Skills: Having live an extended period of time already Nathaniel has acquired many skills in order to help with his research and studies. He is a master surgeon, able to perform complex and dangerous procedures with amazing ease, is a mechanical engineer capable of crafting complex machinery for his experiments and has also made an in depth study of psychology in order to better understand and manipulate those around to him get what he needs. While he may not enjoy physical altercations he has not reached this age without some form of hand to hand combat skills, while not a master he can handle his own in a fight with experienced martial artists if he does lower himself to such methods. Over the years Nathaniel has also made study of human psychology a habit and has become an excellent manipulator and study of human behavior.
Personality: To Nathaniel Essex there is only one thing in the world that truly matters and that is his research into the study of human evolution and Darwin’s theory of evolution. In order to achieve his goals he will lie, cheat, steal, manipulate and kill to further his own means. He is a truly ruthless man who has no concern for the lives of others. While capable he dislikes engaging in direct confrontation and prefers instead to use manipulation and subordinates to handle his dirty work for him.
As far as goals Sinister wishes to expand his knowledge of human genetics until he truly has mastered it. This entails the proper studying and cataloging every mutation that occurs within the human race. Sinister believes that by studying and unlocking the secrets to mutants he will be able to help ensure Darwin’s theory of survival of the fittest. In order to build such a tremendous fountain of knowledge Sinister has learned incredible patience, willing to let plans form over decades if need be.
In his encounters with other humans beings Sinister finds himself being cold, calculated with little concern for their well being. Compassion is not an emotion he feels ever, sympathy is an alien concept and he rarely can find another that he actually respects. However in order to further his research he is willing to make deals and alliances, however he has very little in the way of loyalty and has been known to betray allies in the past as soon as more enticing offer has come along. Given his great intellect Nathaniel can be seen as smug and superior and tends to rub people the wrong way. When it comes to dealing with subordinates he demands total loyalty and unwavering submission to his will.
In the end everything Mr. Sinister does is in his best interest and to ensure that he gains the advantage in the end. While he may help out an enemy or grant someone he barely knows a favor it always comes with strings attached and rarely seems as cut and dry as it seems. To Mr. Sinister the world is merely a series of challenges he must pass in order to unlock all the secrets of humanity.

The Mutant
Codename: Mr. Sinister
Mutant Abilities: While Mr. Sinister is in fact a human thanks to manipulation t o his own genetic code by the mysterious stranger (see history) his aging has slowed down to a virtual crawl. Due to his study of countless mutants Essex has altered his own DNA to grant him an array of superhuman abilities.
Cellular Shapeshifting: Sinister is capable of controlling every molecule in his body allowing him to assume the appearance of anyone he chooses. Also thanks to this control he can heal at an incredible rate, capable of recovering from even being torn to pieces in a matter of moments.
Superhuman Stamina: Sinister’s body produces far fewer fatigue toxins allowing him to exert himself at peak performance for hours before feeling the effects.
Superhuman Reflexes: Mr. Sinister can react at speeds that exceed those of even the finest human’s natural limits.
Superhuman Strength: Thanks to a combination of his shapeshifting Sinister is capable of lifting up to 5 tons under optimal conditions.
Telepathy: Sinister is capable of reading the minds of others and projecting his thoughts as far as 250 miles away. He is also capable of inducing paralysis and controlling others.
Telekinesis: Sinister can manipulate matter from a distance and is capable of lifting up as much of 10 tons. He can also utilize this ability to fly.
Concussive Blasts: His final ability allows Sinister can blasts of concussive force from his hands or the diamond-shaped mark on his forehead.
Weaknesses: Despite the advantages his abilities provide him Sinister is not without his weaknesses. First his shape shifting is limited to mostly solid forms roughly near same size and mass of his own body. His telepathy and telekinesis causes strain on his mind and forcing himself to his limit can cause painful headaches, nosebleeds and even strokes and possibly death. Also he is only able to control one person’s mind at a time. Finally use of his concussive blasts drain his stamina and he is not immune to the blasts should they be reflected back at him.
History:
Nathaniel Essex was born in Victorian England in the early 1800’s. He lived a rather typical childhood but found as he entered college he had a great passion and naturally ability for the study of the biology. It was at this time that he met the woman that would one day become his wife Rebecca. A young lady from a well to do family they found they shared an interest in biology, although Rebecca realized Nathaniel's intelligence to be greater then hers. Essex was drawn to Rebecca because unlike most women he could actually discuss with her his studies and have a reasonable conversation with her. They where married months after meeting and eventually had a child who they named Adam. It was perhaps an irony from god himself that both parents where studying biology since the Adam was riddled with countless birth defects. Despite the best medical help they could afford both parents where forced to watch as their son went through a painful few years of life before finally dying due to a weak heart condition. It was the death of his son that first sent Essex diving into his work.
Throughout the course of his studies Essex began to developed many breakthrough theories on human evolution. Perhaps his greatest influence at the time was Charles Darwin and his theory of evolution. While Nathaniel agreed with Darwin’s theories he believed the man to be too constrained by morals and codes of conduct.
It was around 1860 that he discovered the proof that humanity was indeed beginning to undergo mutations thanks to what he termed as “Essex Factors” in the human genome. Despite his evidence many of his colleagues mocked and shunned him. Their crticsm of his theories tied into the death of his son at an early age forced Essex to become almost completely obsessed with his work. During this time Nathaniel became even farther and farther engulfed with his work. He never saw his wife and on the few times he did they where arguing constantly about how much he had changed since they first met.
Try as he might though the young biologist was unable to obtain the funding needed for his researched had and had to resort on hiring thugs to kidnap people on the streets of London and even resorted to experiment on the corpse of his own child.
His experiments on human beings eventually led to him being shunned by all who knew him and having him cast out of the Royal Society. With little options he eventually crossed paths with a mutant by the name of Apocalypse, a true immortal who showed interest in Essex’s work. Despite the great leaps and bounds his research had made already Essex knew he would never live long enough to unlock the secrets of the human genetic code. After a deal was made Apocalypse transformed Sinister into an immortal being and changed him into the pale faced man he is more easily recognized as today.
One day while at work in his lab Rebecca decided to see what exactly it was her estranged husband was up. Catching Sinister by suprise she saw his work in all its horrific glory. After his wife discovered what her husband was doing and realized the monster he had become she collapsed of a heart attack, the last word she uttered being “Sinister,” he description of her husband. Finding the name suitable Nathaniel Essex took on the name Mr. Sinister.
Through out the following years Sinister found himself more comfortable hiding in the shadows, furthering his research and trying to catalog any and every mutant he came across. His work sent him across the globe time and time again however he remained out of the public eye and generally never even appeared on any countries radar as a person of concern.
In the 1940’s Sinister allied himself with the Nazi’s and performed countless experiments at Auschwitz, earning himself the nickname “Nosferatu” due to his skin color and tendency to take blood from his subjects. The 1960’s found Sinister in Vietnam where he kidnapped dozens to experiment on and became known as the “White Devil”. His work continued Sinister followed the offspring of many of the mutants he identified and studied and continued his place as a “boogie man” of history.
Recently however Mr. Sinister has taken a more active role in society. Approximately 4 years ago he was approached by a group known as the Hellfire Club, an organization that a century ago turned down his request for funding, and was offered a place as a member of their elite group. Seeing the advantage to working with such a well connected, and financed organization, Sinister agreed and became a member of the Black Court and rose to the rank of Black Bishop. With this partnership Sinister was able to gain financing, privacy and time to himself to continue his work unintruded, along with henchmen to collect his valuable subjects for him. In return Essex provides the Hellfire Club with advances in medicine and healthcare whose patents have allowed the Club to rake in even more money to add to its already considerable wealth. While he is appreciative for the advantages the Hellfire Club affords him his main goal still is the furthering of his research, something he sees the Club as a valuable tool in doing so.
