++Application for Enrollment++
The Person
Name: Calvin Montgomery Rankin
Age: 28
Place of Birth: New York, New York
Applying too: X-Force
In what capacity: Field Team
Family: Ronald Rankin (father), Sara Rankin (mother)
Height: 6’2
Weight: 225 lbs
Appearance:
Skills: Calvin’s training at the Massachusetts Academy has learned a variety of skills that come with his education. He also has taken classes for combat to make better use of his abilities. His time spent in the Rocky Mountains has trained him in real-world situations on survival and close combat tactics as well as moderate stealth skills.
Personality: Once known for his skewed vision of mutants and super powered foes, Calvin's recent events have changed his outlook on life. Once arrogant and self-serving as well as nearly constantly angry, his attitude to life has changed drastically. After a near death experience his self satisfying ways have nearly vaporized. Where he once judged a mutant instantly by their power he now takes some time to try to find out who is behind the powers. Also where he was almost visibly sickened by having to use other powers to get by, he now accepts it as a burden that he may or may not be ready for.
Since his 'return from the dead' Calvin has struggled intensely with not only his guilt, but the diagnosis that he's bi-polar. After the beginnings of treatment he seemed to calm, but once off the medication the effects were drastic. While he's still struggling with the changes, he's gotten a better handle on his hot-headed streak than ever. His guilt and self recriminations have caused him to see himself in a different light. Where he does not believe for an instant that he's entirely able to be redeemed, he has accepted that he can still do his best to try and serve a better cause than his own base needs.

The Mutant
Codename: Mimic
Mutant Abilities: Calvin’s mutant power has manifested itself as the ability to mimic the superhuman abilities of up to five other super-humans at one time. The powers that Mimic copies from others are only at half the strength of those he is mimicking from. An example would be if he mimicked a person with super strength that could lift 80 tons Calvin will only be able to lift 40 tons at the max.
In order to mimic someone Calvin must be within visual range of the superhuman in question. He can keep mimicking their power until the distance between him and them exceeds 1 mile. Mimic has also learned that it is possible for him to retain the powers of another mutant if he stays within close proximity to them for at least an hour continuously. Once this is done he can use their power no matter the distance between them.
Retained Powers:
Weaknesses: Only able to duplicate five templates at any given time, Calvin cannot overly burden himself with too many powers as part of a natural defensive system. The powers he does absorb is as close to the original as it can be (with the exception of being half as strong) however some powers do not coexist well. Unexpected quirks can and have happened from duplicating various powers that can cause side effects. Such as duplicating a flight power and an ability to turn himself into a heavy material. He may not be able to fly while transformed. Other variations are entirely possible, and as such he's worried about side effects from them.
Unable to stack powers on top of each other, Calvin cannot simply over-stack the deck with a single type of power to become insanely powerful in a specialty. Also he seems to have been able to replicate a non mutant's powers once. However this may have been because of the instability of his own power as of late. He has no basis to believe he can do this reliably.
Any issue that causes him to lose his powers for a time or revert to a coma, now, seems not to wipe his slate. It's almost as if his power has taken on a life of it's own. Trying to protect and defend him by removing his mental disciplines to retain them and ingrain them into his DNA. This also means his powers are somewhat unstable, meaning he cannot always effectively replicate abilities his body sees as an internal threat to his well-being. If asked he assumes this is a defense mechanism from his accident.
History: Calvin Rankin grew up with a fairly normal childhood. His parents where your average kind and loving parents, not too controlling and pretty much where just parents. Calvin always seemed to be a good kid without any real complaints or worries. When he entered school he was an average student. However when he turned thirteen things started to change. Suddenly the average student became one of the best students in every class attended. The kid who was just “ok” at sports suddenly became the star athlete on the teams he played.
Calvin would later learn this was the beginning of his life as a mutation. As his power first developed he began mimicking the skills and intelligence of those students around him. Had Calvin just stuck with an average life he never would’ve known about his ability or mutation.
However one day Calvin happened to be downtown when a pair of mutants decided to go postal. One a flame wielder and the other was big hulking brute. Calvin tried to get away from the danger but wasn’t paying attention and accidentally stumbled too closely to the pair and suddenly his body changed. Flames appeared from his hands and he became bigger and stronger just like the pair of attacking mutants. Police soon arrived and all three of them where arrested, it was assumed that Calvin was with the attacking pair.
Not long after sitting in jail Calvin was approached by the Massachusetts Academy and offered a place with them. Not sure what was happening Calvin agreed to go with them to find out what happened to him. Calvin learned that he was in fact a mutant and indeed needed to stay in order to learn more about what he could do.
After his initial field test as an active team member he was considered too head strong and cocky to take on serious missions. Demoted slightly, he worked lesser cases that required some attention, but was initially angry that he was being treated as a 'lesser mutant'. It was during one of his hot-headed streaks that he encountered a pair of mutants trying to tap into a power station in hopes of amplifying their electrical based powers.
Thinking himself easily the best person to take on the job he ran ahead and tried to stop them by himself. After duplicating the two he prepared to use their own powers against them, but there was a problem. The two powers did not coexist in harmony in his system and caused a small quirk that, if he'd prepared for, would have been a non-issue. Instead he attacked with full power immediately and detonated the power station and everything in a two hundred yard radius, leaving little more than a smoking crater in it's wake.
Returned to the Academy for medical treatment, he'd reverted to a coma with most of his body having taken second and third degree burns. For weeks he languished in a vegetative state of shock so thick telepathic intrusion was impossible. Then, after a chance close contact with Wolverine, his mental signs spiked. With the theory from the medical staff that he was subconsciously trying to replicate Logan's healing factor, to which an attempt was made for Logan to remain near the maimed man to see if it helped. After several hours nothing improved.
It was not until the next morning that he was seen in the hallway, curled up in a small ball with three bone claws extended from his hands. His skin, once blackened and burnt almost to the bone, had regrown. In the passing days he received telepathic therapy as well as medication for a newly diagnosed bi-polar disorder. After the initial shock and guilt settled in, Calvin resigned from the Academy and left. Thinking it best that he try to live his life without the hassle of living up to an ideal he couldn't reach.
Thinking it best that he struck out on his own he took his own personal war to the Apocalypse contested zones in the west. Staking a personal claim in Colorado he began a one-man siege on En Saba Nuir's outposts. Without the worry of harming team-mates or killing innocents, he staked his claim for over a year in the wild mountain ranges, leaving only to take the fight directly to the servants of the would-be dominator. He gained no notoriety for his actions, but his lack of medication and treatment for his bi-polar disorder nearly consumed him in the midst of his killing lust.
Now, finally emerging from the war-zones he's begun to seek some form of lasting treatment. Some way to settle his inner demons. He's heard rumors of a group of mutants who've been doing wet-work against threats to both mutant and American interests. Seeing this as his chance to find some peace he's struck out to find them, hoping he can find a place to do some real good with his life.

Planting a bloodied hand on the rock he leaped, clearing several feet of ground as he huffed in exertion. He didn't dare look behind him, hearing the roaring shriek of a dozen or so of the hunters behind him. Inside he cursed his luck, and prayed his healing factor worked just a little faster. The long gash at his side ached ferociously, even more so knowing he couldn't get away because of it. Not without a miracle. Making a stand now, here on broken ground would give them the high ground and he'd have to fight his way up. He just needed someplace more defense-able. Someplace he could use the terrain to his advantage. Rolling through a frosty patch of muddy snow he ducked under the fallen tree and gathered his feet, refusing to loose momentum. Behind him he heard the same tree smash into splinters as their leading attacker used his large frame to barrel through.
Howling laughter behind him registered too late. As he cleared the next ridge he felt a clawed hand reach out, barely getting to his calf before he rolled headlong, tumbling wildly down the hill of rubble when he couldn't compensate fast enough. His vision swirled, showing broken rocks, metal, old bones, then swinging skyward before flickering across the various mutants tracking him and back again. A bare chest, gleaming in the moonlight with blood and sweat gave him away to the team. They could smell him. See the heat in the cool mountain air. Or they could hear his tumble down the rocky edge. Relentless and zealotous in their belief in their work, they would follow him forever. They'd track him, wear him down by degrees until he was too tired to fight back. And truth be told he was sick of running.
Setting a foot he skidded across the broken ground, coming to a halt at the bottom and looking back the way of his destructive wake, "Fine. We'll play this the hard way." His fists clenched, muscles tensing as long lengths of bone claws emerged from the back of his hands. More blood to the spattering across his body. His breath was hot and steaming in the dim light of the moon and he could smell the dozen or so scents as they descended. Some slowing to ready their powers to blast him, some charging headlong as if seeing victory at the very end of their reckless assault. Wounded and winded he should have been easy prey, but his anger forced him to keep his legs. Forced him to spit a hateful sentence between clenched teeth, "You guys never learn, do you?"
The first one was on him and with the first wave of his arm and a howl like a raging animal he took the man's head in one bloody spray of bone and flesh before his clawed fingertips could even get close. As his stronger counterpart slowed for half a heartbeat to move beyond the wash of blood in the air, the blond man leaped forward. His left hand retracted his first and third claw, the middle one burying deep into one of his eyes and beyond to rake a hole into his brain. He began to fall and the blond man pulled free, rolling over the falling body and re-extended his claws, taking the next two men with a single strike to each man's throat. Pulling free with a grinding howl he kept his forward charge back up the ridge.
Behind one of the mutants took aim with his arm and fired, missing the wildly dancing prey turned attacker by a narrow margin. The heated blast, though it didn't connect, seared the flesh across his bare shoulder and he could only howl past the pain as he impacted with the next tracker in line. Thinking to stop him by swinging hard and high, he missed entirely as the blond man stooped in and buried the claws on both hands into his stomach and used him as a barricade as he drove forward. Gasping through blood pouring out of his mouth the impaled hunter went near limp, finding no shirt to grasp his weak fingers slid along the slick flesh of the blond man's bare back.
Another blast of heated energy struck the dying mutants back. Worried now the shooter danced back, panicked in the face of the charge and reached inside for a larger amount of power. However before he could find it the moving shield of flesh vanished. Rending his arms in opposite directions the already dying mutant could only give way to darkness as the claws ripped his torso from his legs and send the pieces in different directions. In a panic the shooter threw his arms forward to blast, but a clawed hand swiped in, taking his left arm off below the elbow. In the sudden flash of pain he howled, losing the will to fire with his other hand. The other clawed hand came up and under his chin, punning his jaws shut as a length of bone claw passed through his brain and out the top of his head.
Shaking the dead mutant off his hand, the wounded blond man snarled and whipped his hands down and away, clearing the slick blood from the bone protrusions, "Who's next?"
