Re-live One Moment

Alright, I was thinking about this the other day and I figured it'd be a neat thread to make. Obviously don't feel like you have to give out names, places or anything like that; I, and the people of this site, respect privacy wholeheartedly.

If you could re-live one moment in your life, what would it be? Remember, this is re-living, not changing anything. Everything would play out exactly as it was originally intending to do.

Mine? Simple: Seeing the Dark Knight in a cinema in Central Melbourne last year.

Alright, you're probably thinking 'that's pretty lame', but seriously; the feelings I got when I first saw this movie were indescribable. I was in another freaking world, it was like a mixture of anxiety, adrenaline, fear and pure awe. Throughout the entire movie, from the first time I saw Heath Ledger's Joker, Batman leaping off a building in Hong Kong and the ultimate arrival of Two-Face; I just felt like I had forgotten all my problems (and believe me, I had some serious girl-issues around that time). By the end of the film, when the credits first started rolling, I physically could not get out of my seat. I literally was like "Whoah..." and I had chills. Man, I struggled to sleep that night! There was something about that movie that just pushed my buttons and left me speechless. I could go on and on about how I felt, but this'd go forever. Seriously, one of the best moments of my life; nerdy, yes. Amazingly awesome, yes.

I have a uncle who had been to that same 50th anniversary and he said it was literally breathtaking to see how incredibly disciplined and well-formulated the Chinese people are. I'm fair jealous!

As for The Dark Knight, I tore that film to pieces on another forum. To keep it short, I found the film to be all right but not to the level many folks pushed it to. I'm confident in another ten years, it won't be perceived as this flawless masterpiece.

Honestly, I want to hear your opinion of why you don't think it is amazing. So fire away!

[/s] the Joker. It looked and felt rushed, was absolutely unnecessary, and should have been saved for another film.

Batman's voice is a minor problem, but I'm not like others who dwell on it. It just seemed more laughable than intimidating, and the Dark Knight was always intimidating. If he talked like that anywhere else, he'd be laughed right out of Gotham City.

Finally, the length. I don't mind long movies, but this film was longer than it needed to be. It could have shaved off 30 minutes and been fine, most of those being with the Two-Face fiasco at the end.

In conclusion, I think this film got a boost from Ledger's death. I recall people going so far as to claim you the devil if you said anything bad, which is why I feel the flaws I mentioned were tolerated. But as the months roll on, I do hear folks who loved the film beginning to voice complaints, which leads me to believe in due time it'll fall into the position it would have otherwise received.

Last post on the topic of the Dark Knight, I promise!

I respect everyone's opinion and I will not in anyway diss your opinion; I'll just give you my opinion.

As far as Heath Ledger goes, I'm happy to admit that his death did probably boost a fair amount of the movie's publicity. However, I believe it was his best performance of his career. If you read about how he prepared himself for the role, he locked himself in a hotel room for about a month (obviously leaving occasionally) with nothing but a few comics (The Killing Joke) and some other random things. Now, I won't go and say he was the perfect Joker, honestly, the only person who can make the perfect Joker is Bob Kane, who created him. His portrayal of him was beautiful, as it was a mixture of craziness and terror. But, the Joker wasn't my highlight of the film.

Batman's voice, was ridiculous, I admit. I think Bale should have stuck with the voice he made on Batman Begins, that was more serious and less of a joke. However, I got over the whole voice thing within ten minutes of hearing it. It's hard for me to explain, but the movies overall portrayal of Batman was spot-on. A lone warrior who will sacrifice whatever it takes to save his city.

A side note, and something that is severely overlooked, is the musical score. I have not heard a musical score that has inspired so much emotion into the film since a movie like the Last Samurai (suprise suprise, Hans Zimmer composed that as well). Batman's 'motif' was a expertedly crafted masterpiece.

I kind of can't be bothered going into the rest of my opinion. If anything, I'll hunt down a rant I made on another forum about why this movie set a new benchmark for comic book movies.
