++Application for Enrollment++
The Person
Name: Matthew Michael Murdock
Age: 27
Place of Birth: Hell’s Kitchen in New York City
Applying too: Unaffiliated for now
In what capacity: Lawyer
Family: Jack Murdock (deceased), unknown mother
Height: 6’0”
Weight: 200lbs
Appearance: Matt Murdock is an average height for a man of his age. His build, while lean, holds a bit more bulk to his muscle to make him an athletic 200lbs. The young man’s body is riddled with scars from learning how to fight as well as his double life. He has a head of brownish red hair that he keeps as neat as he can when he decides to bother. Usually he just leaves it as it dries. Despite his lack of vision, his attention to detail is rather impeccable. When he needs to he cleans up very nice, especially when in the courtroom, otherwise, he keeps it fairly casual. There is just something about him that seems to remind those that meet him that he’s just a normal guy from Hell’s Kitchen; site or not.
Skills: Matt has his degree in law and has just recently finished his schooling. He is also a decent athlete and he was trained in stick fighting and hand-to-hand combat, specifically boxing, from an adolescent age in order to protect himself in Hell’s Kitchen.
Personality: Matt, upon first impression, can come off as a bit grim for most people’s tastes. He would much rather cut to the chase in a conversation as opposed to charming his way around things. He just ends up doing that usually on accident. He has a very blunt way of addressing people that is usually reinforced with the sort of confidence one must compensate for when disabled. He has a slight complex where he feels he is just as capable as the rest of the world and most times more than others, he tends to display an almost cutthroat nature about him when faced with a challenge. Growing up in Hell’s Kitchen has imprinted upon Matt a certain survival instinct that has carried over into his adult life. This does not, however, disable his sympathy for others. Quite the opposite really. He tries to help others almost too much to the point where it is pretty much an expense to himself. While he is talented as a lawyer and can have the flair for the dramatic, his heart holds a soft spot for those that can’t stand up for themselves. This is why he currently is spending a great deal of time working pro-bono. Like Daredevil, Matt tends to be very bold and deliberate with his choices. He lives without fear and tries very hard to live without regrets. With his past, he has a very dry sense of humor that one must pay attention to in order to pick up. The way he carries himself is almost too at ease to let on that he is constantly vigilant. His powerful sense compensate for his lack of site and allow him to carry himself as if he weren’t blind at all.

The Mutant
Codename: DareDevil
Mutant Abilities: Matt’s abilities revolve around his heightened senses. While he was blinded just before his powers manifested, one can only imagine what it would have been like if his vision remained. The combination of the advancement in his other senses have compensated into radar. His enhanced hearing is rival to that of echolocation where the tiniest sound leaves a signature from the object it bounces off of and allows what could almost be described as a picture to allow him to grasp the distance, size, and spatial characteristics of his surroundings. Enough sounds coming from, say, the city around him, he is given a very good “picture” to go from. His sense of smell and taste are also something to be reckoned with as it allows him to establish certain judgments that he would have usually needed sight for (like the distance of a person or gender). All of these factors working at once give his brain a series of signals that allow him to “see” in a sense; allowing his brain to give him a mental image that are near visualizations of the picked up signals.
Weaknesses: Matt’s radar really only works when he has a sample of noise, smell, taste, touch to work off of. If he is cut off, he has nothing to go from and he is truly blind. Also, if given too much his senses can overload to the point where his brain cannot process everything going on and he will have to take a few moments to collect himself or run the risk of being disoriented. It takes roughly about five minutes to recover from this. Also, Matt is mortal and the same sort of things that would hurt a regular human would also hurt him.
History: Matt Murdock was raised by a single father, “Battling” Jack Murdock, in the Hell’s Kitchen neighborhood of New York City. Having a boxer for a father didn’t result in much violence. Instead, Jack pushed his only son into education rather than fighting. Matt did as told and took to his studies like a duck to water. That was what lead Matt to a great deal of violence as a child. He was constantly being bullied for his bookish nature and his smart mouth (which usually resulted in the chiding that he was a “regular daredevil”). Instead of pity from his father for ending up in physical altercations he would be scolded. “A smart man knows when to walk away,” he’d tell his son before grumbling about taking his own advice. Jack’s boxing career throughout most of Matt’s childhood was mediocre at best. It wasn’t until Matt hit about eleven that his father had actually taken a turnaround. As a result, Matt would beg to learn to fight and Jack would continue to refuse and try to encourage his son to his studies in hopes that he would never have to grow up like he had. It was late at night that Matt would eventually start to teach himself with his father’s training equipment.
It wasn’t until one day that more than a few thought that, at the tender age of thirteen, Matt’s kind heart was going to be his undoing. Upon seeing a blind man cross the street in front of a truck, Matt ran to pull the man out of the way while the truck was trying to quickly break; causing its contents to spill on the street and onto the young boy. The truck had, unfortunately, been caring hazardous materials; which resulted in the blinding of Matt Murdock while one of the vats hit him and leaked. It was that moment of stress and an attempt to adapt to an injury that Matt’s mutant powers emerged. When he came to in the hospital, everything was so intense. The smell of the ammonia, coffee, drugs, and people along with the sounds of voices, monitors, and the noises outside the city was enough to send his mind into an overload. He clutched at his head and then focused on one sense. Hearing a heart monitor nearby allowed him some sort of realization. His senses made up for his vision in a way that probably no one could ever understand. As he recovered, Matt tried to teach himself to take in the senses around him to get familiar with his settings. When released from a hospital and given a cane, he learned that a consistent and constant sound allowed him more focus. It was at this time that Battling Jack Murdock took time off from boxing in order to help his son.
Throughout the majority of his high school days, Matt still dictated himself to his studies. He was not, however, met with sympathy from his classmates. Instead his disability was met with viciousness and made him a target to the cruel nature of teenagers. This time around though, Matt seemed to hold his own to an extent. Being sent home for fighting more and more, Jack found himself infuriated with his son and they seemed to make a deal. Matt would figure out when to walk away if Jack would get back into the boxing ring. Both kept up their promises. Jack found a day job working as an enforcer for one of the local mob bosses. Jack hadn’t originally paid attention to the interest his boss had taken in his career, nor the quick winning streak that had started. It wasn’t until Matt’s senior year that everything would change yet again.
Throughout the year, Jack continued his two jobs. He worked for a local boss during the day and boxed at night. It wasn’t to anyone’s knowledge that his employer was fixing the fights until a title match came up and Jack was told to throw it. With Matt, just weeks away from graduating at the top of his class and with a scholarship to Columbia, in the crowd Jack couldn’t bring himself to do that in front of his son. Battling Jack battled through the match and won. He was murdered the next day. Distraught by hatred, Matt wanted to go after the mob right then… but then thought it through and decided that maybe he should just go ahead with school. He chose to study law, hoping to help those who can’t help themselves. There was still something nagging in the back of his head; telling him this was not one of those times to walk away. He became under the Tutelage of Stick, a leader within a paternity of martial artists, where he learned to defend himself as well as stick fighting for its use of fast attack and close range brutality. He balanced training and school rather well and in his second, he chose to go after the mob boss that had his father killed. Fighting off the mobster’s men, disguised with a mask over his head, he took on what was an almost unfair match against a washing up gangster. Instead of killing him, Matt had him turned over to the police.
It was then that something clicked with him. Inside there was just something that told him he didn’t need to walk away anymore. Instead he realized that what he needed to do was stand up for himself and those who couldn’t do that for themselves. He continued his training and donned a mask and the name “Daredevil” as a tribute to his own stubborn nature. It was a struggle at first but balancing vigilantism and school soon fell into a swing where sleep was rare and sometimes stolen when he found his schoolwork too tedious. During his time at Columbia, he found himself in love for the first time. Her name was Elektra and they had dated solidly for quite a bit until she and her father had been kidnapped by terrorists. Matt tried to save his girlfriend and her father but the efforts proved fruitless. Elektra’s father had been murdered and Elektra had forever changed. The relationship, already strained from Matt’s own personal demons, was ended; leaving Matt to pick up the pieces and going back to the balancing act of law school, vigilantism, and his own training. He had a string of other relationships during this time but only a few would ever be worth mentioning. Matt settled for graduating in the middle of his class while starting to be the demon Hell’s Kitchen needed. After College Graduation, he was accepted into law school and continued the same formula and once more settled for the middle while he knew that his neighborhood would be protected by the savage justice of Daredevil.
It was when he crossed paths with an old flame while in costume as Daredevil. Elektra Natchios. He discovered that she was an assassin and he found himself clashing with her; having to protect those she was hired to kill. They still shared feelings for one another; feelings that Matt tried to bitterly suppress since Elektra had left him in New York without letting him help her. They did end up fighting alongside one another on several occasions; taking down the Hand’s hold on New York for that time being. Like the many things in Matt’s life, their partnership was fleeting. Elektra took a job with the Kingpin and Matt found himself at war with the woman he loved regularly. The last piece of his resolve crumbled when Elektra died in his arms.
During that time, Daredevil fought with a more brutal fist and a near savage nature while Matt Murdock was in morning. He dated briefly, but unlike before nothing of merit came from it. After the Hand’s failed attempts at resurrecting Elektra, Matt aided a member of Stick’s order by purifying Elektra’s spirit by the strength of his own will. This did not result in an epic reunion, however. She left him once more to find her own place and Matt decided to finally set aside his own grief and do the same. He has recently finished law school and is now working with the Public Defender’s office as well as a private firm handling the pro bona cases. He makes little money but takes on enough case loads so he can get by. He has yet to move out of Hell’s Kitchen.

Whumf!
Daredevil slammed a mobster up against the brick wall of the alley with a guttural snarl. The man perjured himself in a trial that resulted in an innocent man’s conviction and sentencing to life in prison. Dirt bag. Daredevil almost wanted to spit on the lowlife as his red, blank, gaze pierced into that man’s soul. “I know what you did,” he snarled behind grit teeth, “and I’m gonna be watchin’ you Scarzone. Remember that. Every day ‘til you turn your scummy ass in.” With a jerk of his form, Daredevil crashed his crown into the nose of the blubbering thug; breaking his nose. “I’ll be back to check on you later.”
He dropped the suited criminal on his ass to concern himself with his bleeding face. The scent of fear still wafted in Daredevil’s nostrils as he took off to continue his patrol of the streets.
The city lulled in a slow song, giving him a sense for its nature for the night. It was pulsing with the circulation of vehicles and the people but nothing Daredevil ultimately took note of. He continued lurking through the alleys of the city with a look of determination while no hint of fear or remorse read through his red lensed eyes nor did it course through his veins. Stoicly he waited for even the smallest beat of crime. He heard it. Along with a familiar voice that, considering the distance, Daredevil couldn’t quite place.
From his perch, he launched himself back into the alleys and leapt from fire escape to fire escape; making his way to the potential attack he was hoping to stop.
