Echo made sure that she wore her most comfortable boots before she walked down to the training rooms. This would be the first time this week she was down here. The dark skinned mutant liked to keep in shape and use her power whenever possible. After all she was in the first class and needed to be in prime condition. She would be against mutants with super speed, superstrength, super hearing, well anything heightened. Maya needed to level the playing field by using every skill she had in her arsenal. Being able to mimic physical motions would have been a great accomplisment if there weren't mutants in the world that could used telekinesis or have adamantium claws.
Maya opened the door and smiled to see that it was empty for the time being. She liked ot exercise her powers and legs when no one was around. The element of surprise was always the best when it came to her powers. Without wasting time, Echo warmed her body up by sprinting to the other side of the long training room then back again. Her muscles sung out as she pushed herself from zero to full speed.
After she did a few more sprints, the girl walked over to one of the hanging punching back and threw a weak one to test its resistence. Once she got a good feel for the red bag, Maya tore into that thing with full out right and left hooks and even a few side kicks. She had just watched a fight on on youtube and wanted to try out some of the combos she saw.

Maya did a round house kick and a punch before she even noticed the other woman enter the room. The woman was pretty and had golden hair, sort of like Ms. Frost, but more natural. This mutant must have been newer to the school. After all Maya was one of Ms. Frost's first students, she knew most of the alumni around here. The girl immediately stopped what she was doing and smiled at the woman. She didn't quite see what she said, as she was beating the crap out of the bag while Maya was greeted.
"I'm sorry I didn't get what you said." she said while wiping the beads of sweat from her forehead then motioned to her ears. "I can't hear."
The adjusted the straps on her jog bra and looked at the woman infront of her. She looked as if she was pissed about something. Maya knew exactly what she was feeling and suspected what she was down here for. Beating the shit out of inanimate objects was always the best form of therapy for her.

: By the way, Heather isn't gold. That only happens sometimes, and when she uses her powers. At the moment she looks totally normal. ] Roundhouses and punches, the girl seemed intensified with her training. So much that Heather could only raise a brow, and continue watching until she was spoken to. " Deaf then, eh?," she asked. Heather had never encountered someone deaf before, so this was going to be a totally new experience for the veteran Hellion. " You communicate well enough there, mate.," Heather complimented, figuring she could read lips. But even then, most deaf folks tended to speak in slurs and had to be given a few moments to respond. " 'Lotta hard work then, I'd assume." Maya here, well, she was mighty different. Heather just had no idea, but she would find out soon enough. " I hate being an ol' cliche here, but you been 'tendin' long? I haven't the foggiest recollection of you, though I'd say that may be due to my keeping a distance. Not exactly on happy terms with most the Hellions here." Ever since their first encounter, Emma and Heather hadn't been as close. It wasn't something she desired or needed, but it did keep Lifeguard on top of things, especially the incoming and outgoing of students.[/ul]

Maya smiled, she actually did recognize this woman- sorta. There were so many students and new teachers around lately. Maya liked to keep to herself and her quaint circle of friends. It was the akward introduction stage that made her uneasy and partly masked from everyone else.
"Thanks. I've gotten really good at lip reading. However, you're speech is a little different. Do you have an accent?" she asked while resting her hands on her waist. The girl's dark brown eyes watched that Australian's lips move to form and Maya knew that she had aquired an Austrian accent as well. Something about this woman made Maya smile. Her friends had commented on the role she played in the Morlock situation. Unfortunately Maya did not participate- even thought she would have liked to- but she was away visiting her estanged mother. She would have much rather visited a trip to the sewers than spend a few days with her mother.
Maya didn't take any offense to the blonde's lack of recognition for Echo was in the same spot. She was usually so good with placing faces with names, but right now it escaped her.
"Yea, I've been here for a little over a year and a half. I'm Maya." she said while watching her explain her lack of Hellion friends.
"Well most of them are caught up in their own drama. " she sighed. It was true, now that Jubes had gotten together with Davis, it was as if Maya lost touch with her friend.

," she said, honestly unsure of how to respond to that. You don't want to beat on someone about their limitation, so she went with the classic 'I see' bit, before continuing. " And yes, you would be right. I'm an Ozzy, byproduct of the great Down Under." Heather was impressed, the girl couldn't hear but knew she wasn't from around this area of the world. Maybe the Hellions did have some kind of hope, and for that the blond smiled. " Long time, mate. You make a name for yourself yet?," she asked, curious as to where Maya stood with the rest of the academy. " I'm known as a bit of a prude, though I much prefer the term logical." Yes, Heather Cameron tended to look at things from a logical point of view, and it tended to get her in trouble with her fellow teammates who wanted to cater to emotions and setbacks. If anything, that kind of mentality only increased the workload and didn't allow for the team to perform at it's best. But whatever, they'd eventually learn that and come to her, and she'd have to make up for their slack. " If you don't do relationships, you ain't part o' the crowd. Seems everybody 'round here wants to be stickin' lips, while their whole purpose collects rust.," she nodded, agreeing with herself absolutely. " But if you'd rather make something of yourself, and get better, well, you've got me now. One thing I don't do is drama, though people try an' bring it to me... I just tell 'em to take it back."[/ul]

Ah, this one was Australian. Maya hadn't really known any people from that side of the world. All she really knew was that Outback, the popular chain resturant had an Australian theme. The teen needed to be more worldly. However Maya did like how Heather didn' t give her the look of ultimate pity. Echo hated to know that people treated her once they found out. Obviously the girl knew she was deaf and didn't need it rubbed into her face. Also she knew that she could kick anyone's ass in hand to hand, at least when they weren't allowed to use their super senses.
"Have I made a name for myself? Well I'm in the first class and have gone on a few missions with Ms. Frost's crew. My code name's Echo." she smiled, "Logical is much more complimentary. I can understand what you mean." Pragmatic would be another word for it. Maya knew that thinking with her head instead of her emotions was always best. However she had to work on that distinction. Maya tended to lead with her passionate nature, usally resulting in a surge of emotional angst. But that was why she was here, at the Academy, to learn how to think what is best for the many.
Maya grinned at Heather's very opinionated answer on realationships. There were certain things that made her want to exclude those frivolous moments. But then there were the times she wanted to forget about saving the world.
"I don't like drama either. It usually finds me." she muttered while wondering if she should continue with her training, leave so Heather could use it, or possibly share the space with her fellow Hellion?

," she asked, curious as to where Maya was placed. But by her codename, it was probably best to assume back up. " Echo, eh? Fancy name there, I suppose it has to do with your talents." Dear God help her, this was going to turn into a powers conversation, which she absolutely hated. " You get that name yourself, or somebody else grant it?" Logical was the way to be, so she smiled at Maya's words. " Yeah, pretty much. I don't get along with impulsiveness, it makes things more difficult than they should have to be, like my brother." Oh Davis, she thought. What a bundle of reckless immaturity, yet folks flocked to him like moths to a flame. " He likes the femmies. You'll know when you see him, if you haven't already encountered his cheesy pick ups.," she smirked, thinking back to all the time her older sibling did such things. It was not only lame, but difficult to be taken seriously when your own family acted like such a fool. " You training for something, or just to do it?" Heather came to vent, but she felt calmer now. Maybe she wouldn't have to get involved, that'd be a nice change of pace.[/ul]

"Mostly back up." she replied with out the sullen tone most in her position liked. It wasn't as if Maya was a second rate mutant- she wasn't. Echo was just as important and sometimes even more useful for those subtle quests. The girl was selfconscious about a lot of things, but her power always made her feel confident and strong.
"Thanks I picked it out myself. Whats your's?" the teen asked, curious to know more about the mutant in front of her.
"Your brother Davis... oh he's your brother?" she said in a round about way. Maya had to think about it for a second before she finally grasped it. She thought she mis-saw Heather's words, but she didn't.
"He and my friend are dating." Maya stated casually.
Was she training. Well that was the entire purpose for her attending here, wasn't it? Maya smiled and shook her head.
"Just to do it. I just saw a clip online and thought I'd give it a try." she grinned. "What brought you down here?"

," she said, showing some displeasure with the way things went. Of course that had more to do with the training - or lack thereof - the Hellions experienced. " Not exactly a place to get promoted, but it serves a purpose. Davis likes it well enough." Maya was able to deduce who her brother was, even without Heather saying so. Impressive to a degree, but who else was Australian and made a flirtatious reputation for themselves? Wait, okay, maybe the first one, too many were indulging in the second one. Still, props were given with a smile. " Yeah, that'd be Davis. Can't go a day without someone on his arm.," she smirked, thinking back to their days in Surfers Paradise. " He likes girls, poor bloke, a lot. Which one is your friend exactly?" Heather could guess, but she didn't want to say the wrong name, as it wasn't too much to assume Davis having a new girlfriend by now. Logically Maya could deduce what her name was, if she knew Davis to be her brother. Funny, they'd be chatting for a few minutes and Heather didn't give her first name. Oh well, it was practically given away by now, or so Heather believed. Training in general and why someone trained were different, Heather wanted to know the latter. But just doing it was fine, that meant Maya had desire, something the blond could respect. " That's cool, not many others seem to take their training seriously. Nice to know there exists a change of pace, Maya.," she complimented, moving over towards one of the punching bags. It was fairly new-looking; Emma Frost must have went shopping, or somebody else did. " Well, mate. I did intend to give it a few go-rounds, but... I'm a little too calm. I blame you for that.," she joked. " Still, I should probably stay in shape, the pool doesn't much cut it. It doesn't give the same thrill as the beach, something I do miss dearly."[/ul]

"Eh I'm not looking to get Hero status. I am just fine with learning the basics and I tend to train better when I'm by myself. Not sure what I'm going to do once I get out of here though, can't stay forever." she added with a smile.
This was just a temporary place for Maya, she didn't see herself staying at the Academy forever. Maya wasn't one for teaching despite her very high learning curve. She could see her running around the city in a black outfit, the vigilante Echo. Yes that sounded more like her.
"Jubilee. The asian firecracker. Not sure if you'd know her, but if you saw her- you'd know her. " she explained.
Maya grinned as Heather complimented her fighting skills and dedication to the craft. The Native could easily best almost everyone in the school, that is if they didn't use their powers. It was the one thing that Echo was good at- getting down an dirty. She didn' thave any Telekinesis or teleporting powers. This girl had to actually work at what she wanted.
"Thanks. Sorry to ruin your work out. If you want I'll leave so you can amp up again or we could sparr?" Maya suggested.

," she said with a playful smirk. " You see, me powers are a tad bit on the uncontrollable side, at least when it comes to danger. If it feels even remotely endangered, it perks up and anything more than that, well, it takes care of the problem, let us say." Of all the Hellions, besides Mimic, Lifeguard possessed a power that was varied and a real roulette. Nothing was ever guaranteed, and what she got - at least for now - she did not control. " The thought of an eye blast piercing your chest isn't my idea of a spar.," she said, that thought still in mind. " But you've got me curious, have you sparred any of the others here?"[/ul]

Maya's eager expression melted away as Heather told her that it could be problematic. The mutant did know that it would be like Russian Roulette if she sparred with the other woman. Echo wrinkled her nose at her stupidity. Why didn't she ask about her power before asking to sparr? That would have made sense, but Echo never did anything in the due process.
"Yes, that would be a problem. I don't have what you would call a hero status power." she said lgihtly. Maya didn't mind that her power wasn't supernatural or alien. She liked the fact she could do anything within the range of any other human. She could kick anyone's ass, that was if they played fair.
"Nah I'd rather keep my chest in tact. I wouldn't be able to rock a strapless dress then." Maya joked.
"I've only sparred with my group, but other than that not really. Most of them want to work on their powers instead of their bodies- well the girls at least." she sighed. Since her fighting and sharpshooting were her only weapon, Echo wanted to make it damn perfect.

possible, but there were so many powers out there, or live long enough to control them all. Of course sitting around and not doing anything did, well, nothing. If Maya was willing to step down, considering her barrage of attacks earlier, Heather could step out of her typical shell. " Tell ya what, since you seem a bit anxious, we can give it a go.," she said, moving to make her way around Maya and lean against the punching bag, taking note of the already worn out feeling it had. Crikey! This girl is impressive, she gave this bag the ol' one-two.Sparred with only her group, that was something Heather acknowledged. Not exactly peak training conditions, but hell, nothing seemed to be anyway. God, why the hell was training and classes so difficult? Holding hands and making out wasn't that awesome, was it? Argh, whatever. Heather would just deal, and the first step to doing that was to make the suggestion a second time. " You stand out, so you have my respect. But let's not beat a mangy mutt any further, let's get down to it. You got spunk, Maya, and I don't say that about anyone...," she complimented the girl, then went in for the conclusion. " ... I think you could handle whatever my body conjures up, and it'd be good training - a lot more realistic than a bag that doesn't hit back, yeah?" The offer was there, if Maya wanted it. If not, well, she could keep hitting that bag and doing what the other folks didn't: get better.[/ul]

Echo beamed at Lifguard as she agreed to sparr with her. This was just fantastic. Heather was just as unpredicitable as the Danger Room of that New York Academy. The girl twisted the white sports wrap around her hands as a makeshift glove. There was no sense in causing her body further damage than what she'd plan to do have with Lifeguard's attacks.
"Thank you. I like to stand out." she smiled, taking in the compliment. Maya would have complimented Heather for something, but she was never good at reciprocating. " I'd love to see what I can do. I'm pretty sure I can handle it too." she said getting into her fighting stance. Echo wasn't sure if she should start first or if Heather would go. But assuming her powers were defensive, Echo made to punch her square in the jaw and swipe her feet out from her.
