Chance watched as she took a bite to make sure that she liked it. He grinned when she approved. "Glad you like it. I was worried I might have lead you astray in your choice of cuisine." He gave her a wink and looked up when the waiter refilled the drinks. He nodded to the young man and then took another bite.
"Studying the animals, being out and about. Have you ever danced in the rain? Or in sprinklers?" It might have seemed a bit of an odd question, but he'd had the opportunity to do so and found it quite enjoyable. "I like hanging out with friends, watching movies, I actually do enjoy some shopping as long as I'm just not along to be a pack mule." He'd go to the mall with a girl as long as they spent relatively equal time going to both of their favorite stores.

Maya looked over at Chance. It was cute that he was worried about her not liking him because of her dislike of the meal. Faulty logic. Anyways she liked it very much and continued to eat while she paid attention to what Chance was saying.
"I love animals. I haven't been able to be around them much." she said while trying to balance a few broccoli on her fork.
"Seems like we have similar interests. How come I haven't met you before? I've been living there for about a little over a year." she grinned

The young man's head tilted when she said she hadn't had a chance to be around them much. "Why not? If you want one of these days I can take you to the zoo." Or introduce her to a few of his friends, up close and personal. They wouldn't harm her and she'd be able to touch them. He took a few more bites of his own meal, concentrating on his food for a few minutes.
He tilted his head up and grinned. "I'm new. Haven't been here long, just a couple of weeks. So, have you ever danced in the rain?" If not he'd have to take her out to do so one of these days. Or maybe he'd take her dancing in the snow, that is always fun too.

"Awesome. I still haven't been to the zoo yet. Just haven't gotten the chance." she said. Maya looked over at him and drank more from her glass. Why hadn't she been more around animals? Well for one she lived in the city, and two she just didn't have the time. Maybe she should make a long term trip to one of the Cheyenne reservations. That was always a nice break away from her life.
"Hmm, thats right. There are so many more students coming in. I can't keep track." she said, hoping it wasn't an offensive thing to say. Most guys didn't like to know that they weren't the center of everyone's attention.
"Have I ever danced in the rain?" she repeated the question just so understood. "Well you know there is this thing called the rain dance..." she teased."But no, I haven't just danced in the rain."

"Well maybe going with someone will make it easier to make time. I've been going there since I was a kid and know it very well. Can annoy you with animal facts too." He grinned and winked at her to let her know he was teasing, but that really could annoy her with animal facts. But he thought it would be nice since she loved animals so much to take her there so she can see them.
Chance just shrugged a bit, he hadn't expected many to know him yet. He was still fairly new and all that jazz. When she mentioned a rain dance he grinned and shook his head. "One of these days I'll take you out dancing in the rain. Or in sprinklers. It's just one of those things you should do once in your life." Especially if the girl loved dancing. There was no need for music they could just make their own.

"Well you can annoy me away. I could learn a few things about them" she smiled while picking her almost empty plate. Maya hadn't eaten a lot that day, an Auntie Anne's pretzel from the shopping mall, and a medium lemonade. She was greatful for the fine cuisine Chance offered her.
"Sounds like a plan." she smiled while taking the last bite from her plate. Echo gently placed her silverware on the rim of her plate. She could definately see herself coming here again. That was once she got a stable job and could afford an appetizer.
"Man that was really good." Maya said with a satisfied sigh.

"You might regret telling me that." He gave her a small little boy smile and finished off his plate. He was glad to see that she enjoyed her meal and would be more than happy to bring her here again. It was always nice to enjoy good food with good company. He had a feeling she'd like the zoo quite a bit and he had an in with a few of the people who worked there so he could take her on a little behind the scenes tour. Not around the dangerous ones but maybe she could help feed some of the more tame animals.
"Dancing in the rain it will be. I think you'll like." Given what he could tell as her heritage she might actually enjoy it quite a bit. It was a surreal experience he'll give it that. When she finished her plate he looked up. "You have room for dessert?" If she liked the salmon she'd love that cake. He winked at her comment and motioned for the waiter.

"Really now?" she grinned at Chance's warning. Could she reget it later on? possibly, but she wanted to know what he knew. Maya crossed her legs under the table and looked over at Chance. She liked the way he treated her. He didn't make jokes about her hearing or treat her like a child. It was just two peers enjoying a rather nice meal.
"It sounds like fun. The rain has more of an appeal to it. I can just imagine what the other students would say to us if they saw us." she giggled. She was hungry and wanted to try that that mouse he was talking about earlier.
"I will definetally want desert" she said while moving out of the way while the waiter took away her plate.

The boy just winked at her. "Really." He doubted she would regret it later, not if he kept control of his tongue. Maya seemed the type that liked to learn things, and from her gift he could understand why. Even if it wasn't something she could mimic it was still something new to learn. He's actually a bit surprised that Maya took him for his word on how he treated women. Most were under the impression that he was just out to get laid. However, the boy only did things like that when the girl wanted to, he never actually went looking.
"There's some.... earthy and ethreal about it at the same time. Does that make sense? I'd definitely like to show you and to hell with what the others think. It's not really any of their business and they probably wouldn't understand it anyway." The words were said with a grin to let her know his tone hadn't been harsh when he said the words.
A small smile touched his lips and he motioned for the waiter once more. He placed in their dessert orders and looked back over at her. "If you go into sugar shock and chocolate overload, it's not my fault." With that he grinned and winked.

Dancing the in the rain would be fun. Maya was the type of person that was spontaneous and wanted to try anything as soon as she learned about it. Impatient was also a word that could be used.
"Well I think that once we get back to the Academy we should mess with the sprinklers. I don't think its going to rain out just yet. she said while already formulating a plan to get into the sprinkler control room. Maya knew that Ms. Frost wouldn't like that idea.
"You might not care. But they only know me because I'm the only deaf girl in the school." she explained. Maya did care about what everyone thought of her. She still couldn't get over her self consciousness.
"Well I promise if I go into shock it will totally be my fault." she replied.

"I think between the two of us we can arrange that. Sprinklers are nearly as effective and it will give you an idea of what it would be like." The idea did have appeal and he grinned and winked at her. He'd love to see what she looked like in a situation like that. Chance would bet money that she'd be sexy as hell and mainly because of how much she'd probably enjoy it.
He reached over and took her hand, looking her right in the eye. "You have nothing to be self conscious about. You are extremely beautiful and highly intelligent. To be honest, you deafness was never a factor where I'm concerned. Actually, to be honest I'd kind of forgotten about it. So to hell with them if they have a problem with it. They'll just be jealous they didn't think of it first." Chance gave her a wink and squeezed her hand reassuringly.

Maya laughed as Chance went along with her little scheme. It would be interesting to find out what the others would do. She knew that some of her other friends might join in.
The girl was suddenly paralyzed by Chance's words. They were kind, thoughtful and a confidence booster to the insecurites Maya had harbored. A small smile spread across her face as a new shade of pink formed on her cheeks. No one had ever told her those things straight up. Many people said that she was a talented and not as ugly as some of their other friends, but none had combined all those into one pep talk.
Maya continued to blush as he genuinely complimented. "Thanks Chance. That was really sweet of you." she said. Then with a small chuckle she said, "Yeah, to hell with them. They should be jealous of us."

At first he frowned at her reaction to his words, when she seemed to freeze. Chance wondered if he had said something wrong. Then she started blushing and let out a small sigh of relief. "No need to thank me for speaking the truth. I hadn't even added in your genuine sweetness and refreshing honesty. You don't act coy, you are just you, there is no agenda. That's definitely something that hardly any of the girls I've ever met can say. They are always after something, but you are true and genuine. Never lose that." He got up and moved to sit down next her and kissed her cheek before giving her a hug. The girl was amazing and he couldn't figure out why no one has seen it yet.

So much for this not being a date. Echo had been complimented, hugged and kissed. From an outsider's point of view it was most definetally a date. Maya thought she could trick herself into having dinner with a guy, without having the nervous butterfly feeling. But as soon as Chance moved closer to her, Maya felt those exact feelings she tried to hide from.
"You think I'm genuine?" she asked, surprised that that had been the word for her. Maya guessed it was true. She was a very passionate person, but she did lie to herself sometimes. That wasn't too honest. Maya wished that she could stop looking at him and hide under the table, but she was so curious to know what he was saying. Damn her lip reading skills.
When Chance kissed her on the cheek, Maya was stunned. This was definetally not a nondate. Why didn't anyone ever take her seriously? But did Maya really want him to stop- that was a negative.

"Yes I think you are very genuine. Most of the girls in school are very much self absorbed. You aren't. You care as much about the other person as you do about yourself. The other ones, save Dakota, it's all about what we can do for them and to hell with what we want. At least that's how it seems at times." He made sure he talked slow so she could get the entirety of what he was saying.
Chance could tell he was making her nervous and realized what this might look like. "Sorry, trust me this changes nothing. Had I wanted to shift to a date from a not date, I would have kissed your lips by now. It was just a friendly peck on the cheek. Alright?" To prove his point he did it again, then slid back into his own seat as dessert arrived.
