Before he could even move he stopped by her voice. 'Aww...Crap...' He thought. Quickly coming up with plans of possible outcomes that could happen.
A tentcle wrapped around the mugger and put him up six feet high. At this point he could help but feel a bit sorry for the guy. Getting tackled by a deaf girl, punched in the throat and knocked out by an asian guy, and now being help six feet in the air.
Because she stopped him before he could even move. Could only guess that she thought he was being...Out of line. He closed one eye and again prepared himself for a fight. The was one of the outcomes he was predicting from her. Or a worst outcome, her forcing him to fight Echo. He could only hope she doesn't make him.
And instead he was question and quickly went with it. He kept from looking at Echo, so she doesn't catch what he was about to say. And keep Polaris thinking he was loyal to her. "I have an apartment here, they see me as only a person when I am not in a mission I will keep Lord Magneto up to date on what is happening here." He stated calmly.

Maya knew that her abilities couldn't help the poor bastard that chose to jump her as he was encased in metal. The mutant cringed as she watched this scene, she was too shocked to even look up at Lorna's face as she spoke to Hiro. This woman was from the Brotherhood, the daughter heiress to the Genosha throne and she was pissed. The Hellion couldn't tear her gaze from the poor sap, but knew that she had to do something, but what could she do? Maya didn't have any telekinetic powers, super strength or anything even remotely related to being supernatural. All she could do was do anything a normal human could. That was if a normal human would master almost anything they did.
The Native American teen looked up at the woman, her glare fuming with dislike. This was obviously more of an abuse of mutant ability than what Hiro had exhibited. Maya thought about attacking this woman, but she had no weapons. Only her arms and legs- however considered a weapon themselves- wouldn't work against her green magentism aura. It just happened that she saw the woman adressing her while she mentally wanted to banish her away and get the hell out of this place.
"My name is Maya Lopez." she said. The girl rationalized that it would be best to answer this woman's questions as truthfully as she could. Maya was indimidate, to say the least, but at the same time in awe of Lorna's powers. Why couldn't she have been blessed by a gift like that. There was always time to learn new things, but having a supernatural control over a power like that had to be in her genes.

. In fact, the Mistress of Magnetism was relatively calm in comparison to the more extremes of her personality, but they didn't seem to know. Then again, neither of them were ever around Lorna enough to know how she was, or how she could be. Nevertheless, it made little difference now as the two of them were cooperating now. In acknowledgment, Polaris lay the lamp post down - with the man still constricted - on the side of the park's walking path. In doing so, Lorna lowered her electro-magnetic energies and smirked. Lorna Lehnsherr's abilities were indeed genetic, they made her closest to the Lehnsherrs' father Magneto. Naturally being the child of the Master of Magnetism, she was talented beyond most individuals near her age or in general - Magneto would have accepted no less, especially from his very own offspring. So if the other woman found them intimidating, it could only mean one thing... A job well done. " I care not what you're supposed to be doing for my father.," she shot out, not even giving Hiro the dignity of eye-to-eye contact. " I want to know what you are doing now, with this woman. You are not being granted a field day, but rather an obligatory responsibility to our cause." Maya Lopez - a fairly common sounding name - introduced herself, albeit later than the Genoshan would have liked but better than never, right? " That's better. Now, what is a pretty little thing like you doing out here at such a hour?," she asked. " It radiates peculiarity, that someone would walk these streets without some form of protection. Perhaps a more thorough investigation is in order... unless, of course, you have something you would like to admit." Maybe like being a mutant?[/ul]

"Well, I was at work from the morning until about an hour ago. I missed the train from work, so I was forced to walk and this being the shorter way back to my place. I cut through here where I saw..." He jerks his thumb at Maya. "Her." Then nods his head over to the man. "And him, so I took it on myself to help her. And I was about to leave until you came along...Mistress." He stated casually, hiding the fact that he was still on edge.
He turns once more to leave but somethign catches his attention. Maya...A mutant? Was his first guess when Polaris made her statement. He stopped himself. Curious if she really was a mutant, and what her powers must be. Could she be feeling like him? Was she goign to join the brotherhood two if she was?

Now what was she doing out here? Maya had forgotten her whole day because of this woman's very indimidating show of power, but was hit with the reality that she was in. It was as if she was watching this entire encounter through a third persons point of view and was now back in her mind. She took a minute to answer the woman's question.
"Erm well I was going to head back to Boston, but wanted to walk in the park before hand." she said, quietly. Maya wasn't in the mood to ramble on about how she used to live her and wanted to feel that sense of belonging in her old hom. She wasn't the type of girl that rambled when she was nervous- she usally became mute.
Then the big question came into play. Was she a mutant? Maya hoped to avoid this little part of her biography, but knew that it was unaviodable when she was conversing with two fairly powerful mutants. Compared to them, she was the pokemon everyone thought was cute, but lacked an actual value. She thought that if she played dumb, she could get away from this mess of a night. But she knew very well what Ms. Frost would do if she was discovered my a mere human; she would have wiped their mind completely and eliminated the threat. Maya didn't know or want to find out the extent Polaris - her mutant name she didn't know yet- would have gone to do just the same thing.
Maya's voice cracked as she responded to that particular question. Telling people that she was deaf and telling them she was a mutant gave her exactly the same pull of her stomach, the same nervousness. Maya felt like crawling into a hole and hiding there forever, but she knew that it wouldn't be that easy.
"If you're asking me if I'm like you, a mutant.... I am." she said, ignoring Hiros curious expression. In her opinion he had been stripped of knight in shining armor and traded it for looser in aluminum foil. If he was going to sell her out to a crazy person, he shouldn't have been nice to her.

," Lorna asked, her laughter becoming a disappointed smirk. Either Maya Lopez was stupid, or... " Just as I suspected. Well then, there is nothing more to see here, we shall be departing Hiro." If the male did not want to come, he was free to stay behind. But that would arouse suspicion, Lorna pondered to herself as she turned around to exit, only to stop a few steps later... " Maya.," she said, voice calm but eluding consideration. " Unless you are afraid of your own abilities, I have no choice but to assume you lack the power necessary to defend yourself from me, if things turned hostile. I must conclude, you either belong to a pack of mutant renegades or... from your particular mentioning of Boston, you are in the services of one Emma Frost. The weak do not protect themselves, but each other." Perhaps if Maya had only said she was going home, and not handed Polaris a precise location on a silver platter, the woman would have got off scotch free. But now, unless Maya lied or could trick the eldest Lehnsherr, there would be another secret of her plucked right out of her comfort zone. " Well, which is it? Or is it neither, and you'd have to audacity to label me wrong?" Polaris still had her backside to Maya, but that quickly changed when the woman turned her head to the right, that sadistic smear painted upon her face, to await the girl's response.[/ul]

To aviod having a fight with the boss's daughter and endangering both the girls here. He had no choice but to obey her. "Yes, milady." He said softly heading towards her. His sadden eyes were hidden in the shadow of his hood. His hands remained in his pockets. Now he was walking passed her, he sees her stop. In turn he stops as well.
He refrained from saying something about Polaris and her little saying. That would be considered out of line. Only a strong person can help others, he believed. It was the weak hearted who are selfish and cruel. He let out a soft sigh, maybe himself looked calm and ready. While his hand clenched tightly in his pockets wanting to strike her. But he doesn't, he couldn't. His hidden eyes looked to the ground. One day he could, stop all this hate. Or so he believed.

Maya never had met any unfriendly mutnants and finally understood why Ms Frost stressed training and missions. It would have been helpful if Echo knew how to diffuse the bomb that was Lorna Lehnsherr. But really, what extension of her power would have stopped this amazon from crushing her like a bug? There was more than one thing that irritated Maya.
For one, Polaris had implied that she was either weak, stupid or both- simultaneously. Maya was used to being called peculiar, but being called weak and stupid were just that kick in the direction she need to stand up for herself. The girl's usually brown eyes hardened in their expression and dared to look at her directly even if the woman didn't allow her the same courtesy.
The second was calling Ms. Emma Frost weak. Her headmistress was hardly weak, she was one of the most powerful telepaths and quite a buisness tycoon. She might have been the underdog against Magneto and Xavier in their spheres of influence, but there were many assest she had over them. Moer importantly she had taken Maya in, helped her cultivate her powers and let her be who she was meant to become.
"My ability doesn't allow me the same confidence as you, Ms. Lehnsher. Its not that I wouldn't be able to best you, its just that I have no discontent towards you- besides the backhanded comments. I would have nothing to gain from fighting you or Hiro. " she explained with an unemotional face. Her emotions, usually flared like a neon sign, were now hidden from the two.
"From what I've seen you clearly are a mutant, as you pointed out I live with many of them. Its not my audacity, but the only logical reasoning for that color display of character" she said crossing her arms comfortably across her chest. "Now if there is something else you wanted to ask of me, please go right ahead. I don't wish to vex you, m'lady." she added with a seriously sarcastic tone

," she said, totally remaining unresponsive to all that Maya had said. Lorna would let her live in a world of disillusion, be it about the Massachusetts Academy or her own standings. " But for showing spunk, let me reward you." Lorna summoned from her left coat pocket a bundle of money - surrounded in a thin metal band of course - with her electro-magnetism and floated it towards the Hellion. " Contained within that metallic band is five thousand dollars, all one hundred dollar bills. Take and do with it as you see fit, it is the least I can do." Who kept that kind of money, or that much on them? Obviously Lorna Lehnsherr did. Dropping the money a few feet above the other woman, Lorna intended for it to be caught by Maya. If not, it would hit the ground and be left for another to pick up. " You have... remarkable bravery, albeit a tad bit foolish, but remarkable nonetheless.," Polaris complimented her, tone showing not sign of scorn or disrespect; proof she could be kind. " You're wasting your time with Emma, Maya, she will only teach you what benefits her and not you; you merely exist to be a weapon of her vices." Poor Hiro, he was practically being overlooked this entire conversation. However, Maya had taken his spotlight away from Lorna, and effectively become the new superstar of this situation.[/ul]

Maya wrinkled the bridge of her nose as Lorna floated her over a thick roll of money. The girl caught it as it fell gently from the sky and held it in her hand as if it were a bomb. Why would she give her this money?
"I wasn't looking for any reward." Maya said truthfully. The girl wasn't used to interacting with the general public, let alone a Genoshan royalty. She thought it would be rude to decline the money, as she was brought up to accept the gifts given to her with appreciation. "But thank you for this. Although I'm not sure what it was that I did to please you."
The girl was then thrown a curve ball, even more so than the wad of cash- she was actually complimented. Maya was beyond confused by this woman's motives, but was liking this turn of events.
"Thank you, I think." she said with slight reservation. Maya knew that Ms Frost was no angel. Her headmistress, despite her vain outward personality did truely want to help young mutants. At least to Echo she did. There was something odd about the way she paid extra attention to the more promising ones.
"Wasting my time isn't quite the word, buying time is better." she said more to herself than Lorna or Hiro.

: No idea what happened to the posting order, but I assume Byakurai is going to wait. If that is true, I'll go ahead and post. But if that is not the case, I will delete my post and modify it. ] Maya would be smart to take the money, even if she disagreed with the principle. It would mean she could buy something she liked, maybe enjoy life a little bit more. Or she could be a fool and give it away, Lorna was only slightly curious as to that wad's fate, as it would have revealed a lot about the young woman standing before her. No matter, Maya seemed to be keeping it. Good was all Lorna could think, before she spoke again. " You didn't let me keep you down, you stood your ground.," she admitted, a light smile on Polaris's face. " And I like to reward those worthy, considering the times we live in. To make an unnecessary enemy is to die quicker, and I intend on living." But if that failed to register in Echo's head, Polaris would break it down even simpler. " You possess a strength that is most useful, be it for yourself or for whomever you serve. Your character is strong, vibrant, and most importantly unwilling to submit to the presence of another, even if outmatched." Lorna could go on and on, but it was best to conclude this point with the following. " You've earned my respect, so to speak, Maya. I could use your help, if... you are willing to listen." Still turned away from Maya, except her head, the Mistress of Magnetism closed her eyes and let a soft chuckle escape into the night air. " Emma may have the finest pieces on this board called life, but she lacks the strategy to prevail. And in this game, to lose is to be penalized with our population's eradication.," she said, tone becoming all the more serious and elusive to - what Polaris hoped existed inside the other woman - Maya's will.[/ul]

Maya nodded as Lorna explained to her. She did understand what Lorna was saying, but was still curious to know why she was so nice now.
"Go ahead." she said, wondering what more the green haired amazon would ask of her. If it was to switch allegiances, Maya was respectfully decline. She was loyal to Ms Frost and her friends. Maya was tempted to say, I'm all ears, but that would have been a little cliche.

," she replied. If all Maya was going to do was say two words, the woman obviously did not grasp the severity of their plight. Still, Polaris saw potential in Echo, but a dedication to ignorance and repression clouded her judgment. Emma would only contain that power, not enhance it, and the girl was going along with it. Unlike the White Queen, Polaris saw people as individuals who needed to shed their skin - a skin tainted with sorrow and hesitation, stained with dependency and boundaries - and emerge a new being, totally free to be who they were supposed to become. Maya would just miss out, as would Hiro if he didn't get his act together. " But not to leave so abruptly, I would like to pose this question to you.," she began, eluding to a test of sorts for the Hellion. " My father, is he wrong or right in what he has done?" Finally for the first time in what seemed an eternity, Lorna's eyes shifted towards the Asian. Polaris had not forgotten about Byakurai, nor was she thrilled with his silence.[/ul]

Ofcourse Maya wasn't ready for the caliber of questinon Ms. Lorna was about to ask her. Maya was still young, she wanted to have a life before she went on to save the world. Was that too selfish of her? Not in her opinion, there were many years left in her young life she could be avenging.
"Do I think that your father, Magneto is right to create a Utopian safe haven for mutants?" she repeated just so she understood the question. To her, the idea of seperate but equal was a horrible distinction- in regard to race, not species. As a mutant, Echo didn't view herself as superior, but something completely inhuman. She was evolved no doubt.
"I was taught that we can live peacefully with humans as well as any other minority can. I believe that everyone has a choice to live their life however they please." " she started, "However I think that it isn't right for mutants to live in fear from humans just because they are different. As a minority, we should be the ones who should be looked after. If not by the humans, by our own kind."
Some of her ideals her father was so adament about during his life as rubbed off on her. She knew that her ethnicity was something that made people discriminate against her. Now that she was a mutant, she felt it ever more. She would used to think about what would have happened if those persecuted minorites were protected instead. Affirmative action on steriods perhaps.
